I bought this after a lot of research. It actually delivers what I found out through the research. If you need a phono preamp without a hole in your pocket just buy Fosi X5 and look no further. It instantly gives the required kick for your vinyl setup. Satisfying to the core.

The phono stage on my Rotel A14mk2 honestly sounds better. This is strictly for who want to upgrade from their turntable's inbuilt pre amp or dont have one at all. Most likely your amp will have better phono stage than this device. Also the higher gain levels of 56 and 66db are useless on this unit; grossly distort sound.

I had a short range mid-fi setup mostly vintage (technics turntable, grado green 3 stylus, jvc amplifier and behringer monitor speakers) where my weakest link was an emergency phono preamp, a pyle pp444, I manage to get from a friend when my integrated phono preamp failed. I had this for a while and although I was aware there was a lot of room for improvement I didn't want to get a new costly amplifier. I read reviews on the fosi box x5 and due to its budget price tag decided to give it a go. I cannot express how much the sound of my setup has improved. Rich and clear bass, very clear mids and crisp yet not overbright highs. The dynamic range expanded to the sky and lots of headroom in overall performance of my audio equipment. It is one of the most price quality ratio equipment Ive ever invested. If ever in the look for a affordable and competent phono preamp, look no further. Fosi rocks!

Mejoró notablemente el sonido de mi toca discos Denon DP-400 Se notan mucho más los tonos bajos y en general el sonido es más abierto , energético, claro . incluso se logra más volumen .

La première chose importante est que juste avant de commander ce preamp, je songeais à retourner ma tables tournante Audio technica LP60X, non pas car elle ne jouait pas bien. Elle jouait bien, aucun problème de saut etc mais le gain était extrèmement bas en sortie avec le preamp intégré et qu'il manquait quelque chose au son qui était ordinaire. J'ai testé un petit produit passif à 70$ et j'ai une petite amélioration mais rien de significatif. J'ai donc procédé à deux upgrades. J'ai changé le stylet pour le 3600LE, très grande amélioration du son et ensuite ajouré le Fosi X5 et là, la magie a opéré. Quel rendu, quel gain et la switch est sur la deucième position. Je suis allé cherché beaucoup de basse et d'aigue, de la clarté etc...La boite est pesante, solide. Ca ne ressemble pas à une pièce cheap. Je suis très satisfait de mon achat, je vous le conseil. Je songe upgradé ma table vers quelque chose domme une Fluance RT82...donc j'ai déjà mon petit pream champion :)

When I say this is the best phono-preamplifier you could buy for under $350, I mean it. This thing absolutely is worth it's weight in gold. I use it daily, for hours a day. It sounds amazing. It's better than the stock Fluance and Pro-Ject ones that they sell for $100 and it's even better than the Pro-Ject Phono Box S2 Ultra. I returned that, kept this. It allows you to switch between MC and MM carts. Gives you a whopping 66dB of gain if you need that. Has a small and sleek looking form factor. It does use a wall wart power adapter so account for that. If you need a phono pre and honestly even if you don't but wanna blow your stock turntable out of the water in terms of sound quality and punch, this is it for $100 it's a great investment. It's got simple connectivity and setup, you just go from the table out via rca's into the phono pre and out of the phono pre into your receiever or amplifier/powered speakers via rca as well. Simple. I'm not some affiliate, just a hi-fi audio girl who loves listening to good quality music on wax. This absolutely allows for that without breaking the bank. I'm writing this review after the 90 day mark and in the first 90 days it's been perfect to me. Time will tell, but even if I get two or three years out of it, I think the bang to buck performance is worth it.

I looked at several phono stages/pre-amps in the 2 to 3 hundred dollar range and the Box X5 always caught my attention, but, I was sceptical. I didn't believe that a phono stage at this price range could really offer a good quality, warm sound that captures the full spectrum of sound quality that I was looking for at a fair price. Well, I was surprised and satisfied. The sound quality is wondeful and really brought my vinyl to a new level. This phono stage is value for money and I would easily recommend it. The Box X5 punches well above its price!!
