DAB Radio, mains & battery powered
Replacement DAB radio for previous similar SONY unit. Looks good quality and easy to setup, plus compact size to fit shelf in kitchen. Sound quality is good as the SONY radio.

Definitely not stereo but well worth its price
I was looking for a low cost DAB radio, in part to experiment with as I live in Cornwall and was unsure just how well DAB works here. The reviews of this radio seemed to be a little confusing but were generally supportive. I was more interested in using this as a tuner ie. to play through a hifi system so I took the plunge and ordered one. I was impressed by its DAB tuning ability as it picked up 62 stations including all the BBC ones, Classic FM and local Cornwall stations. There was at least one DAB+ station and may be more. This was with the radio in the back of my house on the ground floor. Going upstairs made no difference and it still found the same 62 stations. FM was just as good and picked up all the relevant stations for me. The radio has a telescopic aerial attached but no external aerial connection so cannot be enhanced by using a better aerial. When set to FM, you can press the Enter/Snooze button on the top of the unit and it switches between mono and stereo mode according to the LCD screen and the user manual. However , this unit only has one speaker so is clearly mono only. I wondered if the headphone out socket might give out stereo if attached to stereo headphones or used to plug into a hifi system. Sadly the answer is no. Therefore you cannot use this unit as a stereo tuner. The same was equally true with DAB and there seems to be no way get stereo out of the unit. However, I was very impressed with the sound quality when plugged into my hifi system. The unit itself only has a small speaker and the quality of sound it gives is poor if you want to listen to music but acceptable for speech. The unit comes with a mains adapter with a micro usb connector on it. It is the same usb as used on many older mobile phones so if it breaks, as in some of the questions, just search amongst your old mobile charges and you will likely find a replacement. I presume that the usb on the unit is for power in only. On some systems usb can be used as an audio out but I very much doubt that this is the case here.It is also a clock with date and alarm. I haven't tried to use these but the clock seems to work fine. The unit could therefore double as a bedside clock and radio. For techys, there is nice info system which tells you the DAB station and bit rate that you are receiving. eg I get 160 bits on Radio 3 and 128 bits on Classic FM. Reading on Google suggests that the quality of FM is better than DAB at 128 bits. However, I was surprised to learn that internet streaming will often go up to 256 bits ie, way better. Perhaps DAB is not all that it is cracked up to be.In summary, this small unit demonstrates the amazing quality of modern digital electronics. Given a good signal in, then the sound out will be excellent at low cost. If you are happy with mono from a poor speaker then fine but if you were hoping more you will have to feed the headphone out into a hifi unit. However, if you really want stereo you will have to look elsewhere.

Happy with my purchase and would recommend for someone looking for a simple basic radio.
I was looking for a cheap radio to use in the home office and did not want to spend a lot, just after an easy to use radio that does the job - need not have been DAB or super sound but glad I got this. Having received this the other day was pleasantly surprised. Set up was simple - just turn in on, presetting stations was a bit fiddly but not difficult and really the type of thing you do once anyway It does not have individual preset channel buttons, so changing preset stations involves pressing a few buttons each time, but its straightforward - besides I just tend to listen to the same station all day. We live in an area with a terrible signal, and this works better than other more expensive radios in other parts of the house. The sound quality if good, better than expected for the price. It's a compact size and aesthetically attractive. The ability to change brightness and having sleep and alarm functions are bonus features, so would be good as a bedside radio-alarm. All in all, happy with the purchase and would recommend for someone looking for a simple basic radio.

Disapointed
Poor sound quality and screen not working. I have two Majority Little Shelfords which I've had for around five years and am very impressed by. As such when i needed another radio I went stright to Majority, unfortunatley this product is no where near the quality I expected and I had to return it.

Great little radio
I love this little radio. It has good sound for its size, and although it looks very slim, its clever design means that it is very stable, as small slim radios are usually very easy to knock over. It is wider at the base, but this is tapered so that it is not visible unless you look at the back. The buttons are easy to use and their functions are clear. The instructions are clearly written. Great value.

Disappointing
I bought this radio following the good reviews and I liked the price. Most of the time it played fairly well unless I stood near it and all it did was crackle. I had to use the aerial often to stop crackling which is not a pretty sight. The main drawback to this is the one and off button which is also used as the sleep button and channel changer button. It is absolutely awful, this needs re-designing. Many a time I have left it in sleep mode as I couldn't turn it off as I couldn't reach the power socket without pulling out the microwave. I am now searching for a new one as it stopped working on mains so reverted to battery and they are now flat. I have only had it a couple of years. I wouldn't recommend it much.

Nice Radio. Cheap. Not the latest tech.
I like the look of this radio. You have a choice of battery power or mains. It still sounds clear and encouragingly loud at the top of the volume.I live in a valley which will test radio and TV signal reception. TBH the TV reception is virtually non-existent. Roll on broadband!Compared with my much more expensive Sony portable DAB that I keep in the bathroom (on batteries) the Majority is an inferior product. The tuner (if thats the right word for a DAB) on the Majority is not as good. It picks up channels but without perfect alignment and positioning delivers an gurgling and squeaky sound. The worst offense is the battery life. Compared to the Sony its pathetic; maybe less than half? The blue screen with white script gives it away- this is older less efficient tech.My guess is it uses more power than the most up to date models; not a good thing these days. But, for all that, at this price we are talking honest value for money and a decent performance for most.
