this is the first couch i’ve ever bought new rather than from a consignment shop. i shopped for months before settling on this couch. i can confirm it is indeed a firm couch. however i actually like the firmness. the back support is quite good. we added some soft pillows for decor to the couch and just move those around when extra softness is desired. the color is fantastic and looks just absolutely great in our house, especially with the wood coloration on the side details and feet. my roommate actually assembled the couch before i got home from work - he said it was incredibly easy to put together. it was also packaged with quite a lot of packing material - filled up our whole recycling bin for the week - and shipped fast and with 0 damage. we did not wind up using the extra gasket set included as we found the default setup of the couch to work perfectly for us. it is extremely lightweight and easy to clean - aside from the fabric color being fabulous, it seems to be a surprisingly good tight canvas-style weave. the price is truly unbeatable for the quality and size of the couch. couches and chairs at relative prices may have superior comfort and construction but you enjoy the benefit of this popular midcentury style with this piece at a fraction of a ‘true’ midcentury piece owing to the lesser quality materials that yet seem to be decently solid. we’ve had the couch for a few months now and experienced no issues and i hope that will continue to be the case. i feel that i should note that even though this couch works great for me and my roommate, i question whether it would serve well or hold up to the usage of heavier individuals. me and roommate both weigh under 160lbs each and can comfortably sit on the couch but i think if you have a bigger booty or wider frame you might be unhappy with it - no offense to your booty or nothin :)

My only negative about this couch is that it was shipped with NO INSTRUCTIONS!!! Honestly, who sends major furniture items that have to be put together without ANY instructions??? That was a real bummer, let me tell you. I had to figure it out myself - fortunately it was in just 4 major pieces so it wasn't ultimately too difficult, but sure would have been a lot easier with instructions. (FYI after Googling I came up with some in French only, not too helpful but at least there were pictures). Besides that - great couch! I actually bought this after buying the exact SAME Christopher Knight chair, which I love. It's an extremely solid, quality, well put together item. I was impressed (the couch and the chair) with how solid wood the frame is, and underneath the seats is actually a high-quality spring system, similar to what you find in a bed boxspring. Unexpected level of quality esp at this price point. The wood side arm pieces are high quality wood and very beautiful. The couch looks great as a statement piece, very mid century modern and a wow factor. On comfort - unlike other people, I do find this comfortable. Yes, it IS on the very firm side. It's not a lounging couch or one you sink into to watch a movie. But it is very comfortable, just firm. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this again - hopefully with instructions! I hope the seller reads these reviews and will include instructions in all their items that must be put together.

I recently purchased both the sofa and chair. Although I had read all the reviews and had an idea of what to expect, sadly I do regret this purchase. We did not expect much comfort as far as the cushion was concerned, however as one person stated, it is like sitting on cement! I am literally in pain while sitting on this for just a few minutes. I am 5'4 and 150 pounds for reference. These items are very truly uncomfortable. I would compare the comfort to sitting on an oak bench... about the same. Now, in all fairness, I might not have broken it in, but at that point I would still be concerned with the frame being "broken in". As we were putting the item together I kept thinking how cheap and slapped together it was. Yes, you will most likely having scratches on the veneer, or just expect the edges to look worn, right out of the box. They were really going for the vintage used look with the veneer (not really). The only reason I purchased this is because we have an extremely small entranceway that normal furniture won't fit through, but honestly I would have been better off just purchasing bean bags to sit on. As the title says "I would not recommend". 5/7/24 Update- I want to add to my initial review after using this furniture for a little bit. Surprisingly, I am starting to enjoy the firmness of the cushion. I have noticed that it helps support my body, because it is so firm, and therefore I am sitting with better posture. Also, because it is not as comfortable as most plush sofas, I don't tend to sit for too long, which I personally think is best. We did add a thin latex foam topper to it recently, which helped alleviate the initial pressure I felt in my bottom, but I think given enough time and use, the cushion would of course be less firm on it's own. I changed the title of my review to "It's growing on me", because it is. However, I don't know how the materials will hold up long term nor the structure. My husband is approximately 6'2 & 225 lbs, and he hasn't complained about being uncomfortable oddly enough. He also has mentioned that he prefers the smaller profile of the sofa, as opposed to the huge size of most sofas today. Hope this update helps someone. 1/2026 update- I felt it necessary to leave another updated review. Just recently my husband and I came across a real mid-century sofa in the same blue color and pillows. I sat on it, and yes it was a little more comfortable and a little larger as well, the fabric was better even. However, as I briefly considered purchasing it, I then realized that this Christopher Knight sofa is good enough for us. We don’t use it heavily and for the price point, it can’t be beat. For reference, prior to this we had a super plush, leather reclining sofa. I honestly have come to enjoy the minimalistic design and the fact that we’re not practicing laying down on these sofa’s. It has worked out better than expected for our needs… to sit occasionally throughout the day, read, talk, cuddle a dog, etc. We don’t have kids, we’re not extremely heavy in weight, we don’t use them hard. It works great for us we’ve come to appreciate and don’t need anything more at this time.

It was easy to put together and it is quite sturdy. It is a great accent piece in our living room. It is not very comfortable as a sitting couch but with a couple of throw pillows, it is comfortable to lay on. We've had ours a free months and it is holding up well. Dog hair wipes off fairly easily
