Can you use the cameras digital zoom along with the 10x optical zoom?

Yes. Mine does. I am not sure if this is a feature added in a recent update of the Moto Mods software, or if it is just on the Moto Z Force, or if I just received an updated product (I just got mine yesterday (2/26/2017) but mine will allow me to use the digital zoom after the 10x zoom is at max, it allows me to go to 40x with the digital. One caveat though, while the mod is connected to your phone, swipe the viewfinder right on your screen and there is a setting "Use Digital Zoom". If you check this option, it will allow you to use the digital zoom, but only after the optical zoom has maxed out at its 10x. There is even a section in the "Adjust Settings" portion of the owners manual for using the digital zoom feature (page 5).

Does it run down the phone's battery? Is it any better / more convenient than a regular point and shoot camera?

Haven't shot that many pictures to really test the battery. It is more convenient because the pictures are right there on your phone. No need to transfer them.

Would it be good for shooting action....as in soccer or swimming action shots?

For an entry level photographer it would be just fine for action shots, although you may get some blur if too close to the shoot. There is a sport mode that you can put it in that will help with this.

Does this mod work with the moto z2 force edition?

Yes. It is designed to work with all phones in the Moto Z product line.
