These books were simply charming. I love the innocent and every day drama. I like for little kids to read books about diversity in ages too and these are all about an older man and his pet cat. I also liked there were some morals and lessons to be taught in the stories. For example when he made a cake for his neighbor for Christmas, you learn perseverance, when he falls asleep and his friend waits to eat the cake with him you see kindness, both are showing sacrifice to love the other person. In that book you also learn that sales people can take advantage of you (who needs 3 sifters?). There are not many first chapter books that are worth the time to read, but these were.UPDATE - this is not a complete set. There are 25 books that I have found.

Perfect difficulty level for a first grade reader. Stories are cute, funny, and silly. Keeps my kid engaged.

Bought this collection for my 2nd grade granddaughter who has been a reluctant reader. She loves the set & is happily reading through all so I am extremely pleased. Cynthia Rylant never disappoints.

Mr. Putter and Tabby books are the best!! My husband and I both love to read the to our son. Getting the whole series was great!

I had bought some of these books for my children, they loved them. I have read them to my granddaughter, she loves them! Now she is reading them to me. What a great Christmas gift for her the entire collection of Mr. Putter & Tabby! I must admit I read the books I did not have and loved them.

The Mr. Putter and Tabby books by author Cynthia Rylant are simply delightful. Actually, so are Mr. Putter and Tabby themselves! As a teacher and tutor of young children, I have read the books numerous times over the years...and sometimes read them myself just for fun! The stories are original, sweet, touching (never overly sentimental) and entertain while teaching gentle life lessons that we all need to learn.The first book in the series, Mr. Putter and Tabby Pour the Tea, tells us how this kind-hearted lonely elderly man finds a furry friend at the local shelter and brings him to his "forever home"...a lovely old Victorian, with everything that a cat could hope for: a porch with a swing, gardens, birds, and most of all, love. The many and varied expressions on Tabby's face during those initial days, as illustrated by Arthur Howard, are as true-to-life as any I have seen, and therefore pricless. The ending will bring tears to the reader's eyes (in a good way, of course) and although the story would have been complete here, these two have so many adventures to share that we rejoice as each new book comes along.To mention just a few, Mr. Putter and Tabby Walk the Dog is laugh-out-loud funny, as they care for their neighbor Mrs. Teaberry's "good dog" Zeke. Mr. Putter and Tabby Feed the Fish is also a favorite, as a visit to the pet store results in many sleepless nights for poor Tabby. In Mr. Putter and Tabby Fly the Plane, we get a glimpse of Mr. Putter as a young boy (with whom many children, boys and girls, will be able to identify)and a gentle reminder that no act of kindness is ever wasted.The books, while easy to read, also offer realistic dialogue, character traits, settings, and problem solving in a fresh, original way that make learning fun.Please...do yourself, your children, grandchildren, students, or anyone you know, a favor, and read any or all of these books. They are each in their own way, magical, wonderful, unforgettable. If you can have a cat, or any shelter animal, by your side or on your lap as you read, so much the better! Enjoy!
