More than two million medical students, doctors and other health professionals around the globe have owned a copy of Davidsons Principles and Practice of Medicine since it was first published. Now in its 23rd Edition, this textbook describes the pathophysiology and clinical features of the most frequently encountered conditions in the major specialties of adult medicine and explains how to recognise, investigate, diagnose and manage them. Taking its origins from Sir Stanley Davidsons much-admired lecture notes, Davidsons has endured because it keeps pace with how modern medicine is taught and provides a wealth of information in an easy-to-read, concise and beautifully illustrated format. This book will serve readers everywhere as a core text that integrates medical science with clinical medicine, conveying key knowledge and practical advice in a highly accessible and readable format. The new second section on emergency and critical care medicine introduces a significantly expanded and comprehensive account of the approaches to dealing with acute medical and critical illness. Two new chapters on maternal and adolescent/transition medicine complement the one on ageing and disease by addressing problems encountered at key stages of patients lives. A new chapter on medical ophthalmology has been included as a direct response to readers requests. The opening chapter has been completely rewritten with a new focus on the important principles of clinical decision-making or clinical reasoning. A new internal text design for this 23 rd Edition provides a simpler and clearer presentation of the various categories of text boxes. All copies of this edition carry the Genuine Elsevier Product seal. To authenticate your book scan the label with a smartphone app and enter the unique ID code. Review: 👍 - 👍 Review: The Functional Guide to Medicine - This is an old friend who helped me in the final year now who’s back with much more answers and much clearer. The quintessential British tone is retained but the information provided is now deeper and much more integrated with reviews of the basic subjects than ever. Every topic is screened and edited to sculpt local treatment patterns. They have made it unapologetically bulkier but it’s worth it. The world of medicine is clear as a night sky and here’s your boat to sail. There are updates everywhere even for someone like me who passed only 5 years ago. So many many concepts have been changed/updated/simplified as per new research has simplified medicine and has made the molecular basis of practice much easier. Although some stubborn inflictions are made by the British editors like still they will not acknowledge the significance of mitochondrial DNA behind patho genesis of diabetes but then again exciting new research data’s have been included which literally will blow your mind (like “boom”). Our friend has grown and hasn’t lost the charm at all. Happy reading!

Packaging should be better
The book is original as advertised but the packaging should be better. The corners of the book have been squished and the package was torn at one corner. Please take care of the products and deliver it without any damage.

A Great Book for Clinical Clerks!
I have used both Davidson’s and Harrison’s Internal Medicine and believe they are two great books but written for two different groups of readers. Davidson’s is written for clerkship rotations and contains an adequate amount of information for this task. Harrison’s is written for internet medicine residency which demands a higher level of content.

Perfect!
Really pleased I decided to invest in buying this book. It was recommended to me by an excellent medical registrar, whilst I am working as a trainee ACP in Acute Medicine. It's comprehensive and easy to read. Loads of information on each speciality area.

A nostalgic look at my favorite British Textbook of Medicine
Although by now, after decades of clinical practice and research, I should be outgrown this standard textbook for medical students, I keep buying every other edition to keep up with the British way of studying and practicing medicine. I still admire the delicate balance of conciseness, comprehensiveness, a touch of basic science such as pathophysiology and pointing out the salient clinical picture. I love the brief chapters on vitamins , nutrition, and I reviewed some of the endocrine chapters. I loved the brief paragraph on primary hyperparathyroidism and thyroid gland in general. This book along with Hutchison's Clinical Methods are the cornerstones of clinical medicine. In my opinion, every American medical student and physician should have a glimpse into the clinical nature of British medicine. It also reminded me that we "workup" diseases, but they "investigate" them. I find the word investigation more befitting a clinical inquiry.

Un excelente libro para repasar medicina si eres un médico com experiencia. Un maravilloso libro para comenzar a aprender medicina si eres eustudiante o un residente joven
