Two year review: Excellent machine
I was apprehensive about buying a Dell because you don't hear much about them anymore, but I'm happy to report this has been an excellent machine which has given me zero problems after two years of daily use. I use it mainly for CGI rendering and have recently started gaming.

Fantastic machine
I priced this machine out on The Dell website and the exact system was about $300 more. The system is blazing fast and I read a review that it was loud, but I have not experienced that at all.I do a lot of multimedia and I can't be happier.

DELL SKIMPING ON THE EXTRA THAT WERE ONCE STANDARD EQUIPMENT.
Over all it's a decent XPS computer, but it lacked in a couple of areas for me. I needed a much larger HDD just to find out I need to order a SATA data cable and screws to mount the HDD - oh they have the SATA power cable by the mount there but no data cable, bracket or screws to add one so why one cable and not the other? Dell use to have both in the case and some extras like a mounting bracket, but not no more, probably saves them about 25 cents per computer. So off to order those. Then I needed to expand the number of USB ports for my needs just to find out that now I needed a longer SATA power cable as the supplied cable (that has been long enough for every Optiplex I've set up) was too short for the XPS a much more expensive computer. So off to get one of those .... huff! So anything you plan on adding to this computer internally plan on buying ALL the bits and pieces you need as all those thing that use to be pretty much standard inside the case is not anymore. Assume you'll need to supply everything.BTW not impressed with Windows 11 Pro, it takes it longer to "wake up" from sleep mode fresh out of the box than a poorly maintained 6 year old copy of Windows 10 Pro that's rarely shut down or updated. Might have to wipe it and go back to 10 pro ... oh and they dump a copy of Mcafee on you even if you opt not to have it installed it will be.Set up was easy, cable management was good (since there wasn't any extra it should be) very quiet (Liquid cooled) and decent Seagate Cuda HDD, nothing special on the RAM but I upgraded that to 64gb in a better brand anyway. Worth what I paid but I see it's about $500 higher now less than a month later.Stop skimping Dell on extra cables and screws they don't cost that much and for the price of this machine they should be included.

Just WOW
This unit replaced a 3 year old Dell XPS with an Intel i-7 chip. With the Intel i-9 and solid state drive this one responds literally instantly. It makes very short work of 45 -150 MB photos. Highly recommended.

Way to expensive for something that only worked for 79 days.
Bought this March 1, 2023 and on May 19, 2023, it stopped working. It would not fully boot up, no power to the USB ports and nothing on the monitor. Dell sent a tech to replace the motherboard. When that didn't work, Dell decided to send a second tech to replace the motherboard AGAIN. Now they are going to replace every component of the machine, but we're waiting on parts. This terrible yet ungodly expensive product, coupled with Dell's terrible service, makes buying this a very costly mistake. This is our main computer with all of our client and billing records. Our office has been rendered essentially inoperable for a WEEK now. I wonder if Dell will reimburse us any of that lost revenue? HA!

Solid machine for whatever your computing demands are.
I recently purchased the Dell XPS 8950 and I am extremely pleased with my decision. I have built my own machines in the past and they were similar to this one, but with specialized components that Dell did not offer. However, after a solid decade, my previous machines reached their end of life and could not update to newer versions due to new security hardware that was not available on my build. I chose Dell because I wanted a one-stop-shop for all of my computer needs and their reputation and customer service is excellent.Their software is impressive and does a great job of updating and installing the latest drivers and BIOS. When you buy a machine from Dell, you know that all the components have been tested and will work seamlessly. In addition, their customer service is top-notch and they stand behind their products. The Dell XPS 8950 itself is well-refined and the internal layout is clean and efficient. It has a good amount of ports to support a wide range of external devices, and the motherboard is well laid out for a large range of customization. My build is straightforward, with an i9-12900 processor, 750-watt power supply, liquid cooling, 32GB memory (upgrading to 64GB), 2TB SSD M.2 style, and an Nvidia 3070.I use a Logi MX keyboard with a Master 3 mouse and a Dell 49" widescreen quadHD monitor. I primarily use this machine for multi-application use, and the screen real-estate and fast response of the CPU/memory/SSD is impressive. I also use it for heavy number crunching, and the CUDA cores on the GPU provide the necessary horsepower for my scientific/engineering computing needs. The liquid cooler is compact and very quiet, and the Wi-Fi is excellent. I am now getting speeds that are as good as my wired machine. The case itself is functional but could be more aesthetically pleasing. The front looks good, but there could be some improvement in the traditional stamped sheet metal box and frame. However, it is well-designed for airflow and mounting everything, and Dell has spent a lot of time refining this box over the years.Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase of the Dell XPS 8950. Dell is a reliable company that has been around for a long time and will stand behind their products. I highly recommend this machine to anyone who is looking for a powerful and versatile desktop computer.
