THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME is the soundtrack to the legendary concert film of the same name, which was released in 1976. The performances in the film were recorded July 27-29, 1973 at Madison Square Garden during the band’s tour for its then-current studio album, Houses Of The Holy. The 2CD set will feature the most exquisite and elaborate packaging in the reissue series, recreating the intricate embossing of the set’s original issue. -The 2CD set features remastered audio on two CDs, plus a 24-page booklet. The collection is packed with electrifying live versions of Zep classics like “Rock and Roll,” “Stairway To Heaven,” “No Quarter,” “Moby Dick,” “Dazed And Confused,” and “Celebration Day.” Review: Zeppelin rules - Great album Review: Great remaster of the best concert of Led Zeppelin - Good quality video and audio. Hard to believe but this is really the solid good video of Zeppelin in their prime. So if you like Ze[[elin this should be a no brainer. Bonus cd's to listen to sound great. One of the few live recorded cd's I enjoy lisyening to. A solid effort.

The Songs are Not the Same
Iv'e only included that title for my review as I am an official hard core, note for note, die-hard fan, who has even been in a touring Led Zep cover band. (the drummer) First of all, the second it kicks off, it hits you with a nice mid-bass roundness and an overall dynamic punch that was never on the original. Yes, just like "How the West Was Won" made you smile and say, "Wow - why wasn't this the live release!" So, yes the sonic impact is vastly improved over the original version even if you have meager equipment. (Noticable in the car and outdoors on a portable). The second thing you notice is that there are different versions of some of the original songs. Jimmy Page must have found better sounding, but not neccessarily better played versions from that 3 night stint at Madison Square Garden. I say not better played because I hear mistakes on some of the new versions that were not on the 1973 release. Third, we get 6 new unreleased live songs. My favorites being "Black Dog" and "Misty Mountain Hop" that just seem to have a swagger and grind eclipsing the studio versions. There's great versions of "The Ocean" and the full "Since I've Been Loving You" that are different from the DVD version. "Heartbreaker" hits you live and sloppy and now I know why they left "Over the Hills and Far Away" off of the original, but it's interesting none the less. Overall, this is just a dynamite re-issue. You get different recordings of the tour, 6 new songs, and a REAL re-mastered beefed up live audio landscape that will have old fans smiling and newbies wondering how they did it almost 35 years ago!! Highly reccomended!!!

Only half of the double album.
The sound quality of this old cassette is still excellent, bringing back memories of when I owned the vinyl double album in high school. The only thing wrong with this purchase -- is that it only contained one half of the double album -- there was only one cassette included, and thus only two sides out of the original four. I would be entirely justified in returning it for a refund, since I thought I was purchasing the complete double album, but, considering the good sound quality of the cassette, plus the fact that it contained my two favorite sides of the original album (the sidelong, 23-minute "Dazed and Confused," plus Side Four, containing the extended drum solo on "Moby-Dick") -- plus the fact that the tape only cost $5.81, which is about the cost of an average, used, single cassette (or even less), I will keep it, and enjoy it for what it is, satisfied that I still received my money's worth.

Astonishingly good on vinyl
When I decided to get into the vinyl side of audiophilia last year, I had the studio albums already thanks to Jimmy's remastering project. I wondered about getting this vinyl set. After all, I had the Bluray and, having extracted the hi-res audio, could enjoy that at any time. But when Amazon Warehouse Deals had it for $80, I couldn't pass it up. That's just $20 an LP. Man, am I glad I did. While fanatics like me know that the gigs used for TSRTS are somewhat average compared to the best bootlegs, this is still an important live document, made even better when the full concert was finally released in 2007. Yeah, the original, unedited "No Quarter" is still the best, but what can you do about that? And on vinyl, it just sounds tremendous. I don't know how Jimmy got all 29 minutes of "Dazed and Confused," onto a side of vinyl, but he did. Great quality release. So glad to have a copy,

I bought this album the day it was originally released and the consensus among friends was that it was a disappointment. In a decade when so many less-regarded rock bands released exciting, classic live albums, it was a surprise that Zep failed to match them. The old faults are still there and tend to be on the better-known songs on the second disc. It's something of an endurance test too. The original album featured nine tracks across 100 minutes. The additional tracks add half an hour. What makes this album so appealing for me is the brilliance of the first disc, which constitutes an hour of great value rock music, some of it high-energy, some of it beautiful. The segued opening tracks, 'Rock and Roll' and 'Celebration Day' comprise some of the most exciting live music you'll hear and were the biggest highlights of the LP release. The playing is incendiary, a quality that was restricted on the studio version of the former track. Most of the other less-heralded tracks also come into their own in the live arena, though 'Black Dog' and 'Misty Mountain Hop' arguably lack that extra kick. Meanwhile, 'The Rain Song' is even tastier than its studio counterpart. Robert Plant's sensitive delivery complements Jimmy Page's gentle, dripping, epiphanic notes. The menacing blues of 'Since I've Been Loving You' is a winner as is the buoyant 'Over the Hills and Far Away.' 'The Ocean,' which always sounded to me like the sort of thing Zep could knock off in five minutes, is a joy in this context. J.P. Jones's eerie 'No Quarter' is moved on to the first disc in exchange for the gargantuan version of 'Dazed and Confused' which took up the whole of the second side of the LP. 26 minutes seemed too long then and it does now, regardless of sundry effects and Page's guitar bowing. The momentum of the first disc is lost. 'Stairway to Heaven,' not surprisingly, doesn't match up to the standard of the original. 'Moby Dick,' which featured a drum solo of acceptable length on Zep II, becomes the dreaded extended version here. The new track, 'Heartbreaker,' is a welcome addition, but 'Whole Lotta Love' splutters to the end. Trying to replace/replicate the weird middle section was always going to be tough. Despite its shortcomings, I reckon 'The Song Remains The Same' is full value for its price, given that you get a killer disc lasting an hour. You can always skip the second one.

Over The Hills And Far Away", "Misty Mountain Hop" ... ).
