I've tried out several different types of buttons from many companies including the likes of IKEA and a few other companies from Amazon and they all suck compared to these. Their main issue is that they all "sleep" to try and save power so if you don't use them regularly, like multiple times a day, they'll go to sleep and you'll have to hit them twice to get a button to register. These just work. I have a button next to my front door that I have set up to turn all my lights and my TV off so I can just hit one button on my way out. I use this naturally about once a day. All the other buttons I've tried you have to hit twice. These just work like you expect. Even "worse" I have a button at my desk that turns some task lighting on at my desk if I want to get lots of light on whatever I'm working on, that button can sit idle for days or up to a week sometimes, it always just works. Unlike the listing says these are compatible with Home Assistant, you don't HAVE to use their hub. They're very simple to set up in home assistant, fairly sturdy so far I haven't had any of them fail yet. No disconnects or any issues after getting them set up. They can be a little fiddly to get connected in Home Assistant but I think that's just my setup. They're a nice size, easy to push the button, they don't look really cool or anything but in the same aspect the don't stand out either.

*UPDATE* Mar 2024. IT WORKS NOW! Bought a new one this week, connected it to my G3 and recognized by Alexa. One button can be used for 3 different routines. Better than the Cube, as the cube gets "bumped". You'll know if you know. Buy it! The smart things button is not recognized by Alexa. PERIOD. An internet search indicates others have had problems, but I did NOT see that here as a review. So, if you thought you could buy the Mini Button to pair with Alexa good luck. I did get it to work with the G3 camera (of course). Didn't try with Homekit as these are going back to Amazon. Amazon, please update the skill, or update the listing if there is no Alexa support. I also recently bought an Aqara G3 and Cube T1 Pro. Both so far integrate well with Alexa. The cube, DOES have some extra functionality. Push, Turn, Tap, does NOT work with Alexa, however I can connect the six sides of the cube with Alexa Routines to activate lights, fan switches, whatever. Though TOGGLE does not work well to go OFF. That's what works, and well enough. It can sit on my coffee table or night stand, to do things "quietly".

I've been trying different HomeKit devices for the last few years and I finally decided to try the Aqara system. Along with the smart hub I also purchased the Aqara mini switch. Adding the switch into my HomeKit ecosystem literally took less than 30 seconds between when I opened the box to when I had the switch integrated into the Home app. True to its name, the mini switch is slim and small (but not too small), and the button doesn't feel cheap or flimsy. It can have up to three different assignments based on the control (single push, double-push, or push-and-hold) and programming them is super easy - in both the Aqara app or the Apple Home app. The mini switch is great for use with devices where you might not have a wall switch nearby, or when there's no switch at all; I'm using mine as an auxiliary switch for my bedroom lights. Yes, I can use the Home app but there's nothing quicker than a small button on my bedside table when I want to turn all of the lights off ASAP! So far so good, I'm very happy with the Aqara devices - super quick setup, full compatibility with HomeKit, and exactly what I was looking for!

This is a nice switch that works well in the Aqara ecosystem. Just be aware that it is an old model. The updated model is the "T1" mini switch. It looks identical but uses the latest Zigbee 3.0 protocol as opposed to the rather old Zigbee 1.2 protocol used by this original version. The T1 version is also firmware upgradeable in the event that the Mini Switch needs to be tweaked for security or compatibility reasons. This version is not. All that said, how does this older switch work? Very well. I like the design. The shape is attractive and the button click feels good. It is precise and not mushy. It integrates into Apple Home for automations. In my case, I keep one on the nightstand next to my bed. A single click, combined with a Lutron lamp dimmer, turns on the lamp next to my bed at 10%—enough to see but not enough to wake me up if I need to get up in the middle of the night. A double-click turns on the lamp to 40%—enough to help me wake up in the morning without blasting me with light. And a long press turns the lamp off. This works without fail. No flakiness or inconsistency from the button. Would I recommend it? No, I'd recommend the newer T1 version. For just a few dollars more, you get a better, more up to date, more future proof Mini Switch. But that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with this one. As of this writing, Aqara seems to have pulled the T1 version from Amazon while they blow out this older model. But the T1 version is available at Best Buy. And once the older model is sold out, I would expect to see discounts on this one. That goes for the T1 versions of the Aqara Temperature sensor, Water Leak Sensor, and Door and Window Sensor too.

As I’m sure you can see from the reviews, this is a great buy. I keep buying more and more! I use some as light switches, but that’s just the beginning. The things you can program these buttons to do can be very complex. I have mine running complex lighting automations, with functions that change throughout the day in a perfectly intuitive way. I have them hidden throughout the house to serve various functions. I’ve got one on my fan, and not only can it turn the fan on and off, it can also adjust it’s speed, and it can automatically switch between two set points where I want the fan pointed. I’ve even got one set up as an emergency button for my grandma. If she presses it, the hub plays an alarm, and everyone in the family gets a Critical Alert from the Aqara iOS app, so even if we have silent mode or do not disturb on, we’ll know there’s an emergency. It even works on Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac! One of these buttons could genuinely save a life. And I can feel safe relying on them, because I have a reliable internet connection both at home and on the go. The Aqara buttons are extremely responsive. Quick, reliable, well made, cheap, highly customizable, and they work with everything you could ever hope for. Especially once Thread versions of Aqara products arrive, I’m gonna be loyal to Aqara for a long time. I just couldn’t wait for these buttons to be Thread based to do it.

I purchased this 2 years ago and just now got around to trying to pair it. I had to replace the battery and ended up having to drill two small holes in the cover to use a pair of needle nose pliers like a spanner because the coin slot stripped like butter... First strike. Then the pairing instructions are both vague and wrong... Second Strike. HA does not want to pair a "Zigbee" device that sleeps so aggressively. People talk about how wonderful Zigbee is but in my experience the entire protocol is way too loose in the specs and that causes a lot of headaches. Z Wave, for all its faults, just works... Then they want you to mount the thing with double sided tape and use the battery cover that seems to be welded on as the mount... I would not stick this thing to a painted wall unless you want to patch that too... Third strike. I would not recommend this unless you are using a compatible hub, and I would test it as soon as I got it and send it on back if it doesn't pair right away. As for mine, straight into the trash as I am not wasting another minute on this thing.

Very easy to set up in the Aqara app and create automations. If you go this route, you can ONLY add and control other Aqara devices. If you have an Aqara Matter hub, like the M3, you can also add and control non-Aqara Matter devices. But there is a workaround. Adding it to Home Assistant with the Zigbee2MQTT integration makes it much more powerful and useful. (DOH, the Zigbee!) When you do so, all the button entities (push, double push, hold, release) are exposed to Home Assistant. You can control ALL Home Assistant devices and automations with it then. I don't know why they don't advertise this. (OK, they want to sell hubs so there's that.) Very cool little gizmo. For example, I've set one up for my wife with a "going to bed" automation, so that a single push turns off all downstairs lights, sets two LED strips to 10% as nightlights, and turns on the hall light so she can head upstairs to bed without being in the dark. (A double push turns ON all downstairs and outside lights. In case the hears a noise or something.) I love these things. I have 5 of them. And I have the Cube too, I just can't find a use for it. But it was $23 so I had to have one. LOL. Integrates into HA exactly the same as the button. If you have other Aqara devices, you'll love this thing. If you run HA you'll REALLY love this thing.

We used it to write a simple automation to alert us when our toddler leaves their bedroom in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. They've just transitioned from a crib to a toddler bed so we were a bit nervous about a child roaming about unsupervised in the middle of the night. It immediately triggers the automation I wrote in Apple Home with 100% reliability in the 2 weeks we've used it so far. Highly recommended.
