Okuma Cold Water Linecounter Trolling Reel

I have used these reels on my fishing charter in the Gulf of Alaska for 4 years now. I own 11 of them. I use the 30 series for Salmon and the 40 series for Halibut. When you have a 30+ pound saltwater King Salmon or a 100+ pound Halibut on the end of your line, you NEED a great reel! I've had reels that cost 3 times what these do that don't perform well and don't hold up over time. The saltwater environment we subject our equipment to is brutal. These reels get a steady dose of big fish and saltwater all day, rinse of fresh water at night and a couple drops of oil twice a year. But they last. I have only had to replace two over the years. Not from failure, but from clients that just can't seem to hold onto a pole when there is a big fish on the other end. Very sad to see pole, reel and fish get away. Mostly the fish. But that's the life of a charter captain! Anyway, great reels at a fair price. Highly recommend!

Bought this for a Christmas gift for my son. He already has some and said he wants to switch all his reels to this. Nice quality and works great!

Great reel good weight good size good value

after getting to use this reel for the summer i can write a honest review. im impressed with the line counter.. its GREAT to know exactly how far your out since this also tells you how far down your lure is. and when you do hook up the reel has the power to quickly get them in. it seems well sealed and since i use it in a fresh water environment i expect years and years of life out of it.

Great reel bought as combo with pole brought it on vacation first time out got a lake trout

OK,as a guy who fishes the great lakes, and has 12 of these and others first off let me tell you there a great trolling reel for large salmon. I just ordered 2 more reels,as is turns out Okuma is removing the normal click sound,starting 2014(not the loud clicker) and as a result I thought the new batch of reels were defective,but thats not the case.But sure would have been nice to know!!..Okuma This reel is very similar to the Convector series,just more bling.As I use these more I will update this review,if things change. But every reel requires maintenance,so have it serviced or do it yourself.

Caught 2 limits of Rock fish back to back days out SF Gate to Farallon Islands and up to Point Arena. The drag takes some extra turns to activate but once you dial it in no problems. The line tension nut fell off first day, my fault trying to dial in bait drop speed going down 300 feet. Holds 300 yards of line and can't beat performance for the price. My freezer is full of fillets, Thanks Okuma

Great reel! I didn't want to review to soon. It has now been 1 year of solid fishing/trolling with a downrigger and this reel is excellent. the counter work flawlessly, very smooth, castable without bird nesting the wire. Will happily continue to use this reel for many years. I would recommend this reel to all my friends and family. Thank you Okuma.

no dislikes great reel for price

I use only Okuma Coldwater reels now on my boat; all 24 of my reels catch thousands of pounds of salmon each seasons. I use the CW203D on my Downrigger rods, the CW303D on my Dipsy Rods, the CW453D on my copper rods up to 250FT and CW553LS for coppers below 250Ft to 400FT. Excellent product!!! No reel has ever failed!!! The drag is perfect « click by click », the clicker is loud and much appreciate by my clients!!!!
