I purchased this for a homeschooling project to do with my five kids. I needed a compass quickly, and saw the positive reviews and went for it. I absolutely love that it has a string. This made it simple for my four year old son to hang on his neck and keep close on our nature walk. It was very simple to use and has a nice, big and easy to read orienting lines, arrow, and magnetic needle. It is well-built and a good value. I am planning to order more so each kid can carry one on future nature walks. It's light, portable, and very user-friendly--even for little ones. Added bonus: there's a built-in magnifying glass for spotting creatures and nature!

i got these to teach my nephews map and compass. the first thing we did was to place the compass on a compass prover i made some months back. i was really surprised to see that one of them is .5 of a degree out, the other was on the money. my opinion, this is a great value for beginner or someone not looking to spend a ton of money on something that will be used for back packing but wants a quality, trustworthy instrument. i would trust it with land nav in a heart beat.

I have been spending more time hiking lately and having a compass seemed like a good idea. When I go on hikes, I keep my phone with my keys and power bank altogether in my hydration pack. I do not want to chance having my phone in my pocket and have it drop in swamp water on the trail. Having said that, my phone was my primary source for orienting myself on the trail. Since I no longer use my phone I wanted something that doesn’t need batteries or a GPS signal to work. Hence, the basic compass. As a test, I went on a 6 mile hike with my group and we only used my compass when we went on new trails. It worked perfectly and it was easy to read. I have to admit, there was something a little special using an analog compass. It’s quite satisfying and I highly recommended it. The overall construction is nice and the color was vibrant (I selected the orange variant). It is super lightweight and compact, so throwing this in the pack was a no brainer. If I had a complain, it would be speed. The needle seemed to lag a little bit until it found north, but I’m not sure if it’s the needle or I’m just not used to old school tech. Summary: nice and cheap tool for a hiker that doesn’t want to drag more batteries out to the trails.

Got this for my 3 year old grandson. He loves it. Easy to use and understand. Study and high impact.

We’ve used the compass to do some beginner orienteering and it has worked great! Sturdy enough for an 8-year-old Cub Scout.

Very nice, and lightweight. When I got it, I lightly tapped it so it found North. Now, no worries. Like the color, easy to find.

The compass was working, but had an air bubble in the sealed unit. I sent an email to them questioning the effect on accuracy with the bubble, but received no response. Not good.

In my youth, I used a compass in the forest, but this time I needed one just to adjust my TV antenna in line with the TV transmission towers. Simply used a map for towers locator to get the coordinates, which I got from tvfool.com. This compass is perfect and not expensive. It is reliable.

I wanted a simple compass for travelling overseas and could not go past this one. It is clear, easy to read and strong enough to handle the knocks that are inevitable during travel. It is sturdy and very well made. I recommend this item highly.

We bought this very basic compass because our child watched Stranger Things and immediately decided that navigating the unknown (or at least the backyard) now required one. This compass does exactly what a compass is supposed to do: it points north. Reliably. Consistently. Our child tested it extensively by standing very still, squinting intensely, and announcing directions like they were on a secret mission. Overall it helped our child feel 87% more adventurous and 100% more serious. Sturdy, simple, and perfect for young explorers who believe orientation is a survival skill (which, in some cases, it definitely is). Would recommend — especially if your household is currently experiencing a Stranger Things phase.
