I do not know whether it is defective or it is really bad. I tried printing a couple of layers on it first to test it, and the print just stuck! I couldn’t remove it whatsoever as if it is glued into the plate, to the point that I started scratching the plate while trying to remove the plate, and guess what? I couldn’t..

This purchase has turned into the mist expensive purchase ever! This plate looks fake as for the markings, more over because of the lack of adhesion the PLA kept extruding and formed a big plastic ball which damage my nuzzle’s connections, so I had to buy a new one, having done that and still trusting I washed and made sure the surface was clean and i could get better adhesion, the same thing happened except that now it damaged my board, not to mention the extruder and being down for more than a week waiting on parts which Creality has no standards as you get a board that has differ connectors ….blah blah ….a nightmare…stay away!

I have been fighting print adhesion issues on my Ender 3, especially with PETG filament. I had purchased another PEI-coated spring-steel build plate, and it was awful. I was having more luck printing on glass - but then breaking the parts off of glass was also a problem with some prints that had delicate parts. I was reluctant to purchase another PEI plate, but the price was good, so I went for it. I'm glad I did! I have had no adhesion problems, even without having to use hairspray or glue sticks. I'm definitely satisfied with the performance. Using the PEY side with the "stars" - I do use a light mist of hairspray to make sure I don't have a problem with breakaways later in the print, and it does impart a very faint stars effect if you look at the surface in 'just-so' light, but odds are you won't see it if you're not deliberately looking for it - at least with the filament I've used it with so far.
