These are cool
#### update---I wrote too soon---last night was a very cold night here and I was woken up at about 3am with the sound of a pile of these sliding down the wall--I'm guessing the wall contracted a bit with the cold and these puppies popped right off. wahhhhhhhh!will now glue and use painter's tape <sigh>I would actually give these a 4.5 if I could. These look great-and went on fairly easy. Yes-you need a flat wall--sand out any bumps if you've got them. Also--I had no problems with them staying stuck--I prepped the wall with a TSP substitute cleaner. (I don't like the real deal) This stuff really cleans off any grease or dirt on the wall--after the third rub down I was starting to take off the paint...so I stopped and let it dry. When I stuck them down I lined them up by the top and side edge and them pressed them into the wall and held them down for a few secs.. Then later I went back and pressed them all down again. They are still all there a day later...and they look pretty amazing. The only thing I would take a half pt away is that they don't have instructions in the box for how to put them up....for instance-I used kitchen shears to cut them--that wasn't the best thing to use-it kind of warped them a little...so didn't know what to use to cut them well. also-good to know-there is a thin protective coating on them on the metal side that you should peel off---some of the tiles looked like they had gloop or marks on them--but it was really on the plastic coating.....

didn't stick
"self stick" peeled right off wall within a few days of install.Update - my initial review was in the middle of a major home renovation so not a lot of time to mince words - didn't stick is about all I could manage. I felt that a more accurate description of the problem was warranted since this is a popular and expensive product. In my opinion this is NOT a DIY'er project - I am an Operating Engineer so while I am not directly in the construction industry I have an extensive background in Building Trades - having said that my experience with these tiles is less than pleasant - 1.) There is only one tool that will cut these tiles properly - a chop saw with a 60 tooth (or better) carbide blade! All the reviews that said a jig saw or tin snips worked for them simply can not be accurate and I would like to see pictures of the finished product - ghastly or hideous are adjectives that spring to mind... it took me about 2 days to accurately cut and place a small backsplash ( 12" x 60") with a TON of waste - because the center portion of this product is black any gaps in the tiles shows up as a HUGE flaw from even 30 feet away - get up close and it looks like the Grand Canyon between tiles with anything less than PERFECT joints - and who can cut PERFECT joints with a chop saw??? Maybe a milling machine... Most frustrating to me was the fact that having read the previous reviews and understanding that wall prep was crucial for proper adhesion I took extra time to make sure that the application wall was ready - regardless of this fact and after 2 days of painstaking labor to get the joints perfect the next morning I came down to make coffee and 1/2 the tiles had simply fallen off the wall - not happy to say the least... So FAIR warning to all the DIY'er out there - unless you have very low standards or are some sort of a genius with a chop saw and in the end you don't mind having to use an alternative application process - this is a "self stick" product that's the selling point avoiding the installation hassle of a traditional tile product - I would steer clear of this product.

The possibilities are endless....
Absolutely beautiful! Created a phenomenal "look"! But the next morning, some were still where I put them, and some were on the floor. Apparently the "sticky stuff" isn't very sticky. At least not to the walls. Because they stuck to EVERYTHING else before I could get them back up on the wall! As a remedy, I used some laminate adhesive on the backs of the ones that fell, to stick them back in place. Worked like a charm! However, one caution: If you use this remedy, make sure that the tiles are FIXED in the INTENDED place and WILL NOT move before you move on. The laminate adhesive is wet and your tile WILL slide and STICK LIKE HISTORY where you don't want it! Hence you will need another remedy!!

Nice looking kitchen
I found the tile hard to cut so I did have to use a hacksaw and a miter box in a lot of places but the end result is beautiful. I feel you must be handy in doing home projects to tackle using this product. I decided to use an extra glue on the back so I did not have to prep the walls and it worked great. The finish is beautiful and looks so professional once I added stainless steel cover plates on all the outlets; the extra expense was well worth the price.

Attractive tiles but do need extra adhesive on most real-world applications
We needed to cover up an area behind the stove where previous owners had a microwave oven (not one designed to sit over the stove but a counter top that took up way too much space). Anyway, the wall looked terrible once we got the old microwave out and installed a new stainless hood. The wall was far from the nice, smooth surface these tiles need and so I used a LOT of Glue Dots as the easiest and least toxic way to apply the tiles. So far, we have had a couple of tiles come loose, but when we add several more glue dots and re-apply, they seem to stay well and have been up for over a month now. I applied them in a herringbone pattern and they look really sharp with our new stainless appliances.

Not a top tier product
The price was cheap enough so I figured I I couldn't go wrong. Used a secondary adhesive like other reviewers advised. Tiles cut easy enough with tin snips. All the tiles I received were packaged well, but All the tiles were bowed. I was able to bend them back to somewhat straightish. Just a little annoyance. Ends are not beveled, so keep that in mind when using only for stovetop backslash.

Great product, adhesive is terrible though!
Really nice look, lightweight and durable. The adhesive is terrible. Don't even attempt to stick on any surface without applying an additional adhesive. Mine were falling off the wall within minutes. The corners dented, and I had to reapply them using my own adhesive glue. Aside from that, they look great and go up in minutes.

Misleading heading
I ordered these tiles from the Warehouse Deals as they seemed to be the right thing I needed and they were discounted so a win-win! However, while these are suitable for me and the project I have in mind, I do want to address the misleading heading for the product. This is NOT stainless steel. These are not solid stainless tiles but two thin pieces of aluminum with a PVC core. It makes them lightweight and easy to cut, which is great but they are not steel. I do wonder at the longevity of the tiles for my particular project (as a cork lined trivet for a hot plate) but as a backsplash I am sure it will last. The brushed quality of the aluminum gives me qualms however on the ease of removing crud and grease. We will see.
