The Great Adventure Catholic Bible, Second Edition (Notetaking) Review: This is the best Bible I've ever read. I highly recommend it. - 'The Great Adventure Catholic Bible' is the best Bible I've ever read. I highly recommend it. I've owned many Bibles over the years, and found this one to be the very best. Written in easy to read American English, it includes detailed maps, charts, and descriptions, which make the Bible come alive. It also includes three ribbon markers, so you keep track of several Biblical books at once. The leather-like cover is well-constructed of high-quality materials. Review: Beautiful 14 pt font Bible- with Adventure Timeline insert!- perfect for annotating like crazy! - I've been listening to the Bible in a Year podcast and through that heard about the Ascension Great Adventure Bible. It's awesome! The large, clear font, the maps, the overall layout, the Great Adventure Timeline... The timeline is included as a removable fold out thingie in the back. Such an incredible way to lay out the content of the Bible. It's really changed how I think about it! There are chapter-like introductions to the different sections of the Bible, with really insightful academic and theological information. I love the heft of the Bible. (You may not, though, if you're used to smaller editions with smaller font and no additional study material that are easier to carry.) I like the faux- leather cover. I annotate the bejebus out of this Bible as I listen to the podcast. The paper is nice to the touch and a quite a bit thicker than typical Bible paper. My dense pencil annotations don't show through. The font is... 14 point? I think? I can read it without my stupid readers which tells you the font is way bigger than in a typical novel. And masses bigger than in a typical Bible. The text itself is the Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition. My understanding is the RSV was originally a Protestant translation that the Catholic church tweaked. While doing a bunch of random reading I also learned there are some differences in Protestant v Catholic Bible books content. And some differences in Bible books among Protestant denominations, too. In the 1530s, apparently, Martin Luther moved seven Old Testament books (the Deuterocanonical books or Apocrypha) to a separate section of the Bible, argued they were not equal to Scripture, and questioned the canonicity of New Testament books like James and Revelation. Um. Wow. After some thought I decided I'd rather read the Bible the way it was put together in 380-390 AD rather than how Luther decided to do it in the 1530s. AITA...? The guy criticized the Pope but then low key acted like an unelected one himself, seems to me... Am I right? I mean... he chopped up/ reedited/ and then just kinda loosely translated the Bible! What the actual? I'm of unspecified Christian persuasion, so I've got no horse in this race. Don't come after me accusing me of heresy. Anywho. Great Bible! Get it if you have dodgy eyes and like scrawling all over it and underlining everything!

Best Catholic Bible
This is an amazing Bible. Has so much more information. The breakdown of sections and descriptions and the notes throughout are so informative and interesting. Section for following the Bible in a year timeline is perfect. And the timeline chart is amazing. Great for personal development. Highly recommend of your looking for a Catholic Bible. It can be read alone . But best with the Bible in a year podcasts. Absolutely love it. Highly recommend.

Big and quite heavy
I do a lot of Bible study at our church and although I love my Jerusalem Bible I wanted to get the Adventure Bible to go with the Bible time line study. I do write in my Bible and wanted one with room to do that. Well this is definitely a study bible with lots of room to write and goes perfectly with the study. I almost sent it back because of its size though. It’s twice as thick as I thought it would be. Everyone who sees it thinks it must be large print. I did buy the tabs to add to it. Now that I am using it I love it. Easy to read and take notes.

Love the color coding and maps
I have only recently purchased this, but I am feeling more connected to the story of our salvation. It groups the books of the bible into “eras”, if you will, with introductory information to help with understanding the importance of what is happening. The maps at the back connect you to where/what at certain periods in the story also. Perfect for any type of Catholic Bible Study.

Large Print Version is the Way To Go
Love this Bible. I recently began the Bible In A Year podcast and bought this companion large print edition to read along with the series. Well made. It has the Bible In A Year timeline and lots of additional study guides to help you understand what you are reading/listening too. I especially like the color coding and the summary at the beginning of each book contained in the Bible. The maps in the back of the Bible are also very helpful. The three attached ribbons are helpful as you are usually reading three different chapters each day. The larger type is easy to read. Because the large type doesn't leave room for note taking I also purchased the Bible In A Year Notebook. One picture (with pencil) is to highlight the size of the printed word. I highly recommend this version of the Great Adventure Catholic Bible.

Beautiful....Informative....Bible!
Enjoying using this Bible for Father Mike's The Bible in 365 Days podcasts. Lots of interesting notes, maps and as he reads I can follow along word for word and make notes. What a joy to do the Bible this way.

Worth every penny. Love it!!
I purchased this version because it’s the only RSV-2C translation that has Jesus’ words in red. The footnotes have proven invaluable, guiding me to see how to books are interwoven and even how they inform the Catholic Catechism. These footnotes have deepened every reading session and I am so grateful! The timelines also make this massive book feel a little more cohesive. That’s probably the wrong word but it helps to understand how they flow. I’ve only scratched the surface with this but wanted to report back with my gratitude! An example is in the pics of the references starting with Luke 11.
