Edible Wild Plants (Nature Observation North America)

As far as guides go, this is great for anyone looking to learn about eating plants while frolicking through the forest. It is a small folding brochure weighing a little over 1 ounce and measuring 8 1/4x4 inches when folded up, so it's small enough to keep in your day bag or your bug out bag for when you're playing GI Joe in the woods living out your post-apocalyptic fantasies. As far as the information presented, it is a compact booklet so you may not learn everything there is to know about each plant, but it is enough to know if said plant is fit to shove in your mouth, and that's really all you need from a book on wild edibles. It has 6 different sections grouping plants by which part you can eat (such as "Fruits and Berries," "Leaves, Stems, and Bark," and "Roots/Tubes.") Poisonous plants are also included in their own section. The booklet includes realistic illustrations (not photos) of each plant, so as long as your eyesight is A-OK, identification won't be difficult. The descriptions of each plant typically gives a minor visual description, how to consume it safely without poisoning yourself, and warnings if a plant has any poisonous lookalikes. Included on the back are some common sense warnings and a few handy tips. I'll include a picture of one of the pages to give you a better idea of what you're getting. Why didn't the seller include a sample photo so people could see how the information in the brochure was presented? Seems dumb to leave your buyers guessing what the hell they're gonna get, you'd think the opposite would be desirable for an entrepreneur looking to sell their product

This is everything you want in a lightweight reference guide. It has a lot of useful, relevant information densely packed into a small package, the text is large enough to read but not too large to waste precious space, the pictures are clear, and while the descriptions are terse, they are generally sufficient to give you what you need to identify a plant. The glossy, heavy paper makes it easy to wipe down the guide after getting caught in the rain, but this isn't waterproof, so beware. The lamination is only on the surface, leaving the edges exposed, and dunking this in water will end poorly. All around an excellent product.

It's perfect! I was looking for something compact to carry & this is perfect. Separated by category, pictures, names, and even a quite extensive poisonous category. The best thing is, it will be so easy to look up a specific plant at a glance. Very well arranged. Lots of info in something so convenient. Laminate as well, so it's probably waterproof. Like I said, perfect.

This laminated brochure shows pictures and gives descriptions of the most common edible and poisonous plants and fruits in North America. I'll put it in with our camping supplies, as a handy reference. I didn't realize it was just an accordian-fold brochure when I ordered it, but looking again at the description, it does mention the size. Just not enough detail to tell me it wasn't a book. It actually says "paperback" and "on the back cover" in the description. Everyone who likes to eat greens and fruit from the outdoors should find this reference very useful and reassuring.

I love these. I have a basket with different ones that I set on the picnic table when camping with the scouts!

I live in the Northeast and was looking for a quick easy clear concise guide for edible plants that I could forage for in an SHTF. I am familiar with several of the species that were presented already, however I wanted to have a little more reassurance. This laminated guide has clear illustrations of edible seeds, fruits, nuts, roots, leaves, as well as medicinal uses, herbal uses and also lists all the poison by contact and poison by ingestion species you have to watch out for. Excellent resource if you are a prepper or survivalist and want to see what plants are most likely abundant in your local wilderness areas, back yard, down the street in the vacant lot or simply growing along the roadside. I was surprised to learn that several common tough woody species can be eaten as well, if prepared correctly. Check it out. Even simply to have as a conversation starter...it's worth the price. Enjoy dining.

This is an awesome book to have. The biggest thing for me and my grandson as we went looking was to identify poisonous plants to stay away from. This book is clear and easy to read, the pictures are super helpful

A single low quality drawing of a plant does not make for easy certain identification of a plant you intend to eat. I was expecting better and perhaps fully concentrating on plants, not trees, nuts and berries or 1/6th of the contents dedicated to poisonous plants. If i wanted to know about poisonous plants i would but a book on them. Sorry but this is not worth the money or safe to carry around to help identify plants to eat
