Product Description In 1991 NBC changed the face of prime-time sitcoms by introducing young audiences to an eccentric teenaged girl from a broken home on the mend. A video blogger predating the Internet, Blossom Russo (Mayim Bialik) chronicled the events of her teenage life in full, hilarious and sometimes heartbreaking detail, providing inspiration to youngsters and their families for five very special seasons. Now the groundbreaking Emmy nominated series first two seasons, 37 episodes, are available for the first time in one deluxe DVD box set. Starring: Mayim Bialik (Beaches, Curb Your Enthusiasm), Jenna von Oÿ (The Parkers), Ted Wass (Soap), Michael Stoyanov and Joey Lawrence in the role that made him an international heartthrob! Bonus Features: * Original Pilot* Blossom Trivia* A Very Special Show: A retrospective look at the series creation and impact on television, including brand-new interviews with creator Don Reo and stars Mayim Bialik, Jenna von Oÿ, Joseph Lawrence and Ted Wass.* A Very Special Friendship: An examination of the onscreen friendship of Blossom Russo and Six LeMeure, as well as the off-screen relationship between actresses Mayim Bialik and Jenna von Oÿ.* Audio Cast & Creator Commentaries desertcart.com "A very special episode of Blossom" is an easy punchline along the lines of how the French adore Jerry Lewis, but Blossom really is something special. Along with Clarissa Explains It All, this 1991 coming-of-age series ushered in a new generation of empathetic and empowering teen and tween queens. Fifteen-year-old Blossom (the enormously appealing Mayim Bialik, who portrayed the young C.C. in Beaches) is the only girl in a house that includes her session musician father (Ted Wass), her curmudgeonly grandfather (Barnard Hughes), and two brothers, recovering addict Anthony (Michael Stoyanov) and jock Joey (Joseph Lawrence in his teen idol-making role), who is a few yards short of a first down. Mom has abandoned the family to pursue a singing career in Paris. Bialik’s high-spirited dance during the opening credits instantly draws viewers in with its exuberant girls-just-want-to-have-fun spunk, and within the first 40 seconds of the first episode, in which Blossom attempts to buy her first box of tampons, the series broke the primetime mold. Blossom would deal with age-relevant issues other series did not, including puberty, sex, substance abuse, and hurtful gossip. Blossom was totally relatable; not quite a beauty, but neither completely a geek (her participation in marching band notwithstanding). She was smart and reasonably popular. Unlike Clarissa, Blossom did not break the fourth wall to confide in the audience. She had a rich fantasy life that illustrated her feelings. In the first episode, with no mother to talk to about the changes she is going through, she dreams of a sitcom fantasy mother, embodied by The Cosby Show’s Phylicia Rashad. In "Rockumentary," a series benchmark, a flu-stricken Blossom imagines herself as a pampered, self absorbed rock star in her own version of Madonna’s Truth or Dare. Not that she really needs to embellish her real life. In "I’m With the Band," she finds herself in an elevator with the Fresh Prince himself, Will Smith. Meanwhile, in episode after very special episode, she and her chatty best friend, Six, (Jenna von Oy)--perhaps the best girl buddy team since Patty and Lauren on Square Pegs--navigate the hazards of adolescence. And what exactly is a Very Special Episode? At heart, it’s the Will She or Won’t She moral dilemma. Will Blossom lie to her father about attending her first makeout party? Will she smoke a joint she finds on the bus? Will she go to "second base" with her new boyfriend? Refreshingly, Blossom leaves some episodes open-ended, providing families with something to talk about. There are some (last time, I promise) very special bonus features, including convivial cast commentaries, the original pilot, and segments about the development of the series and Blossom and Six’s friendship. Adding to the fun are glimpses of future stars, including Neil Patrick Harris, Johnny Galecki, and Giovanni Ribisi. Some dated references aside (Hammer pants?), Blossom’s quirky spell is undimmed. To quote the theme song, in my opinionation, it’s gonna surely shine on DVD. --Donald Liebenson Review: Love the show - The only complaint is the discs were in the wrong order Review: Blossom Rocks...Great DVD - Blossom is my all time favorite tv show. I have loved it since I was a young child. One night I was in the living room watching Tv with my mom(I am a 25 year old female) and I saw a commerical for Blossom seasons 1 and 2 on dvd. Well I was like oh my god. No way and I was so excited because I had been waiting for the longest time for this to come out dvd and or be shown in reruns again. Finally my wish came true. This two season dvd set rocks!! It is totally amazing. It's so neat to go back to how the series started and see how young the cast was especially Blossom,Six and Joey. I lobe seeing them then in the series as teens and then what they look like now(in the comintaries) in their early 30's all grown up. Truly amazing, wonderful, hilarious, heart warming, funny tread setting sensation of a tv series. I was in lobe with Joey lawrence back then and still am. He was gorgeous back in his early 90's Blossom style. Whoa!! Joey was my 2nd celebrity crush. My 1st one was Jordan Knighht of New Kids on the Block. Blossom will forever live on and be cool and a great fav show in my eyes. I can't wait for the rest of the series to come out. Seasons 3 and 4 were my fav seasons. I can't wait too more of when Blossom dates Vinnuie(had their first date in the last episode of season 2 and that episode was to be continued so I am anxious to see the rest of it.)

Blossom Seasons 1+2 - Whoa!
This boxset is a definite must-have for all fans of the show. By far the best seasons (though still excited that there are more to come), setting up the most important part of the show - the dynamics between Blossom, her two brothers and her dad, Nick. It's not just the kids that learn lessons, throughout the seasons here, as each cast member seems to learn from the others and - if you find the ease with which 'difficult' issues are dealt with a little too unrealistic, it's important to remember that they were keeping to a filming schedule. It does deal with some issues that, for its time, were new and no one had attempted to deal with in a realistic way - such as divorce where the mother has left the kids, not the father. Well worth a watch for all those who remember the late 80's and early 90's - and would be beneficial for all current teens, who suffer from angst after watching the new 90210, The Hills and other shows where the cast have all the power but none of the responsibility - this shows how it used to be done so much better...

Great show for kids!
I was "beyond the age" for this when it aired, but I LOVE Barnard Hughes, who plays the Grandfather in the 2nd season. He added SO much to it...fun loving musician that was the dad of Blossom's rarely seen Mother (Margaret Reed played her in 1 episode). The "Multi-Generational" thing made it interesting for me, at 51, to watch. Without it? No interest to me, really. There's NO getting around the fact that this must have been a great "real life lesson" show for the teens Blossom's age, that I imagine were the target audience. As Lou Costello said, "If you get the kids, you will get their parents." And in the end, Blossom did GET me!

Oh, this brings me back!
Blossom was my very favorite TV show when I was a child. The character always reminded me so much of myself. I have not been able to find the DVDs for years, and was so glad to see them available on here. I have only watched the first DVD so far, but the show is just as great as I remember it, and it brings back really fond memories. I certainly recommend it for anyone that loved the show, or any young girl that is in her young teens trying to figure things out.

Forgot how much I admire Mayim Bialik
I wanted my kids to see this amazingly brilliant (literally) and talented young woman back then because they see her now on Big Bang Theory. She's super! The content is more for 14+ but it opened some discussions with my 12 year old that she had been wondering about. (Boys, gossip, etc). Some topics were over her head, thankfully she didn't notice them. (Drugs, alcohol, sexual innuendo.) Watch it with your young teen...there are some good teaching moments.

A "must have" series that would have deserved much more quality
Growing up with "Blossom" I absolutely love this series and it is certainly a "must have" for me and all the other fans out there. The extras and interviews are also very good. Regarding all these points this DVD collection would get the full five-star rating from me, no doubt about that, and I will certainly also buy the additional seasons on DVD as soon as they come out. So why did I only give a three-star rating? Because of the picture quality (or, rather, the lack of it). Unfortunately the picture quality is much closer to an aged VHS tape than to a new DVD. This wonderful series would have deserved a much better treatment.

I used to love this show when it was first on tv - unbelievably at the start of the 1990s. Blossom lives with her dad and two brothers....her mother having gone off to resume her jazz career, leaving dad to cope....with mixed success. Blossom's best friend, the curiously named Six is also around - I have NEVER heard anyone speak quite as quickly as Jenna Von Oy who plays Six...until you meet her screen mother that is! Lots of fun but serious too - the problems of growing up/parental splits/peer pressure...yet it is all handled beautifully...one of the most perfectly balanced situation comedies ever to grace a tv screen. Don't overlook Blossom's brothers....Tony and Joey....much of the comedy comes from Joey's reactions...like his namesake in Friends, he is cute, endearing and somewhat intellectually challenged. Tony has had a troubled teen-age and issues with his dad over his prior behaviour, but emerges as a wrily humourous survivor, who actually teaches his siblings much by his "I did this but you don't have to go through it too" approach. As for "dad" - the fabulously underrated Ted Wass is terrific. He does his best with his kids, but knows he's making it up as he goes along. His character is a musician, which gives much scope to plotlines..with some hilarious consequences. I treasure the episode where he's been a backing musician for Paula Abdul and in order to perform live, he has to master a dance sequence....imagine Frank Spencer at the disco and then some....I nearly fell off the settee laughing. Blossom's eclectic fashion style is a hoot too - those hats! Perfect entertainment for teens upwards. If you didn't catch it before, don't miss it now. Can't wait for series 3 and 4 to clear all their copyright problems - anyone who's checked out Shout Factory's website will have heard that release has been delayed while all the artists whose songs are played, sometimes just as background for Blossom and Six dancing, have to have deals for royalties/recognition. Having Blossom's dad being a musician was a fun idea for the programme, but a real headache trying to track down some of the more obscure musical elements - lets hope they sort it out soon, because it would be great to see the rest. I LOVE THIS SHOW !!!!!!

I remember watching this great American Sitcom when I was between 12 and 16 here in the UK! It was on Channel 4 on Wednesday Evenings at 6.30pm on British Terestrial TV. Blossom and her two older brothers live together with their dad, when their mother walks out on them to start her music career. Nick russo is left raising his 3 kids. Blossom deals with the issues of becoming a teenager and her older brothers have their problems too, which is mixed with humour, life lessons and strong moral messages. I'm so glad I have this on DVD. I can't for Seasons 3,4 and 5 to come out on DVD! PLEASE NOTE: Even though it says that it is Region 1, it can play on your Region 2 DVD player. I tried it on my DVD PLAYER and it plays with no problems.
