Attractive, rugged, easy to install and use.
After having several high-priced, big name weather stations destroyed by ant infestations, I decided to buy separate temperature and raingauge systems. Only the raingauge would remain at the location the previous systems had occupied, and it needed to be sealed against ants getting into the electronics. The ECOWITT WH5360B appeared to meet that requirement so I ordered one. I was delighted when I unpacked it. The unit was indeed sealed and except for the mechanical tipping bucket mechanism that had to be open to the rainfall, everything was totally enclosed in a plastic housing with no entrances for small pests. The tipper sent its tips to the electronics with a magnet, so there were no wires to be chewed and no holes for wires were needed. The assembly instructions, both the text and the drawings, were clear and easy to follow. All the necessary parts were provided except for the batteries (1 AA lithium for the sensor and 3 AA alkaline or lithium for the console). The console had no trouble locking onto the sensor's signal and it has never lost connectivity since I installed the sensor about 50 feet away from the house. The calibration feature deserves comment. Several reviewers complained about its accuracy and that had concerned me. This unit is exceptional in that it has an internal electronic calibration setting that can be adjusted any of three ways. There is a procedure presented in the manual using rainfall collected from the gauge after a storm, or you can pour known amounts of water SLOWLY into the gauge, or you can compare the reading with a nearby gauge of known calibration. Any of them will work. Unless your unit is actually malfunctioning, you should have accurate readings if you take the time to calibrate it. Both the sensor and the console look nice. The display is an attractive addition to the wall in our Florida room and we have been delighted with its performance.

Great product. I love it
It has been working great for almost two years now, here in Southern California. The distance between the monitor and the outdoor rain collector is over 50 feet and there is no problem with the signal. I only had to replace the battery in the outdoor unit once and that was after more than a year. I haven’t had to replace the battery in the indoor unit yet, and it’s almost two years. I’ve never had to adjust or tweak anything to keep it working and that’s very good for something that is constantly exposed to the weather. The battery life on both units is very impressive. It provides lots of statistics and keeps a good history. Right now it is telling me we’ve had 1.31 inches in the current storm and 0.69 inches in the last hour.

Pretty good!
If you're looking for a digital/wireless/self-emptying rain gauge that is 100% accurate, you're going to be disappointed by anything I've tried so far short of a full-on, professional grade weather station. Yes, they give data to two decimal places, but in terms of matching a precision accumulator gauge that's mounted less than a foot away, you're lucky to get within 10% of the actual rainfall. Personally, I only use digital/wireless gauges to give me a general idea of how much rain we're getting without my having to go outside and get wet, so I'm not counting on them for my final rainfall numbers. For that, I use an accumulator gauge, like the Stratus, that "magnifies" the rainfall using a large collection area relative to its measurement tube's diameter. However, I do want my wireless gauge readings to be as good as possible. Having said that, from what I've measured, the EcoWitt is pretty darned good. Our last rainfall was gentle and steady, with very little wind - ideal, in my experience, for comparing gauges. The EcoWitt was within 4% of the rainfall measured by a Stratus accumulator gauge mounted next to it. I have used other wireless gauges that were lucky to be within 10%. I know that doesn't sound like much, but if you get four inches of rain, an error of 10% means you could be off by nearly half an inch. The thing I like most of all about the Eco Witt, however, is that it is well-designed from a practical standpoint. Most self-emptying gauges under $50 have open bases. Spiders and other small creatures see them as ideal homes so, when it comes time to actually measure rainfall, they can be clogged with spider webs, wasp nests, you name it. When you know rain's a-comin', you need to check them over and make sure they're okay. The Eco Witt's base is closed, with only small drain holes. It's much less attractive to those unwanted inhabitants. I have yet to chase a house-hunting spider from its innards. My biggest complaint is its data display. The upper display will show either Rate (inches/hour) or Event (total accumulation without an 8-hour pause). The bottom display shows Day, Week, Month, or Total. Living in an area that's prone to flash floods and debris flows, I would very much like to view both Rate and Event data at the same time. If they'd fix this, I'd give Eco Witt another star back. The Eco Witt is reasonably accurate, and better designed than most other wireless/self-emptying gauges in its class. Like most of these wireless gauges, by the way, it's designed to be mounted to either a pole or to a horizontal board. If, like me, you find your best sites are exposed sections of vertical fencing, you'll want to plan on making a right-angle mounting adapter from a piece of wood and a couple of 90-degree metal brackets. Inexpensive hardware, and pretty easy to do.

GREAT rain gauge!
This is a great little rain gauge. Bought this to replace a LaCross WS-9000UTWC which just quit working correctly after less than a year in use. I put this clear out in a corner of my backyard, and the receiver station is setting clear in the front of my house, so the signal transmission range is great. I really like all the recording methods also (year, month, day, 24 hr., hour, event, etc.). Only reason for 4 stars on accuracy is that i don't know if it's accurate because i have nothing to compare it to. I wish it had the readout numbers lit up on a black background instead of just an LCD display. There is a back light that lites up the screen when you press a button, but it only stays lit for 3-4 seconds. I still highly recommend this product.
