My Favourite Wife [DVD]

Having recently watched Penny Serenade I knew that Cary Grant and Irene Dunne worked well together, and I loved this gorgeous film about a man who, having had his wife declared legally dead seven years after she supposedly drowned, marries again only to discover, on his honeymoon, that his first wife is very much alive.Cary Grant plays the increasingly flustered husband to perfection. His reaction to the discovery that his missing wife was not alone on her desert island is priceless, and the fun increases when he sets eyes on her "Adam".Irene Dunne is so watchable and you just have to root for her character, despite feeling rather sorry for wife number two who, after all, has done nothing wrong.There are a couple of very funny scenes in the courtroom, involving a rather bumbling judge, and Irene Dunne's attempts to convince her husband that "Adam" isn't anyone he should worry about is also amusing, as is the scene where wife number two decides Cary Grant's character, Nick, needs professional help.I think the ending could have been handled a little differently. There is a change of pace, somehow, and it feels like it should have been tighter. Overall, though, this is a real gem of a film and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm going to watch The Awful Truth next to complete the trilogy of movies by this fabulous pairing.

It’s good to see the old actors and actresses but you have to realise they can’t be judged by modern films. We have moved on.

Cart Grant film, love it and so did parents in their 90s!

Lovely film

Any film that has Irene Dunne and Cary Grant is well worth watching, the comedy is first rate.Granville Bates as the judge was also terrific.Nothing today can bet a good old Hollywood classic.

This black and white film is one of my favourites. I totally recommend this romantic comedy. I first obtained it as a video and have been looking to get a DVD copy for a while.

I have always loved this movie. I guess to some it is just another easy comedy but I think this one is very charming and adorable and Cary Grant is extremely handsome here.

Cary Grant And Irene Dunne both at the top of their game in a comedy that stands up well years after it's release. So if you Like eaither Grant or Dunne rhis film is well worth a look.
