I purchased this book because a professional mentor of mine shared with me how valuable her book was to her. I must admit it has the answer to seemingly any grammar question one could ask. The only challenge I face with the book is finding what I'm looking for. I am so used to using Google to simply state: "When to use then or than," that looking through a reference manual seems tedious. Overall the book is a great resource once you familiarize yourself with how to search your topic.

I have owned at least 8 of these Gregg Reference Manuals in the past and used them daily while working as an assistant. I took minutes at meetings and typed a lot of narrative for federal and state reports. In the world of business and writing, all my friends use these for proper English. I wouldn't use anything else! Items are easy to look up in a hurry!

When I was in college, The Gregg Reference Manual was referred to by the professors as "The Bible". Just like the title says, it covers all the bases for all your writing needs at least on the business level of Style, Grammar, Usage, and Formatting. The book gets better with each edition adding new things to keep up with the technology of today's world. My favorite section of the book it the words that sound alike but spelled differently. Whenever I am not sure which word to use, like "Affect" and "Effect", I head to the GRM. If I am not sure on term papers or reports, I head to the GRM. It is a great book for secretaries and administrative assistants. They have added new sections to keep up with computer usage as in my days of high school and college, we were using manual and electric typewriters and computers are now the basic source for typing correspondence, reports, and all the computer software used in today's business world. I will always buy the latest edition, even though earlier editions, they only change a few words or things, but this is the best reference book to have in your library like a dictionary and thesaurus is.

I am attending college right now and I am taking a course where this book was required. I am glad it was required because I am able to use it for my other courses. I will definitely be keeping this book FOREVER, even after I graduate. This book should be given out free by the colleges to all new students that enroll in college, because it can be helpful in any of the courses where you have to write papers. i.e.: English 101,102,103, etc...AWESOME book!!! If they come out with a newer version, I will likely by that one also....

This is going to be a short review because I am still evaluating this manual. After taking Fred Pryor's Mistake-free Grammar & Proofreading seminar, I was compelled to purchase this book along with other writing materials to help me become a better writer.Thus far, this manual has met my expectations. For the most part it is easily organized. I gave it four stars because the e-book version is somewhat difficult to read and takes a while to load. There are certain reference links (at least you think they are links) in the book; however when you click on them they are not hyperlinks. I think when this book was written, it was not written for a e-book, but only hard cover.Being an HPT professional it is important that my writing is precise and crisp and I believe with this manual and much practice writing graduate papers and projects at work, my writing will improve. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a writer and desires to write and communicate effectively. The rules of grammar have changed and the English language still remains to be one of the most difficult languages to master.

I started using this manual after finding I was consistently making a grammatical faux pas. I purchased the Kindle edition so I could have it as a reference at work. This book will help answer those questions like, do you use affect or effect; do you use yours truly or sincerely; is it ect.or etc.? If you have a question on grammar, punctuation or usage, this book is for you. I would have given it 5 starts, but when you tap on a reference in the Index, like “etc. 164,” nothing happens. I would like to be taken to paragraph 164. If they update the index with hyperlink references, I will give this 5 starts. You can do a search, but hyperlinks would be better.I cannot compare this to other books because nothing else is in this league.

I recently attended a business writing class where the instructor recommended this book. Early on after graduating from high school, I spent a year in secretarial school where I learned extensively about punctuation, sentence structure etc. In this class I found out that some rules have changed and I needed an upgrade. I am very happy with this book and I feel it will be an invaluable resource with both personal and business correspondence. I highly recommend it.

This book contains so much information in it! It is a great book to have if you work in an office or if you are writing a lot of papers, or if you just are interested in proper writing techniques. I had to get this book for a class, and most people re-sell their school textbooks, but this one is one I will be keeping for my bookshelf forever. I really feel like it will be a handy book to fall back on later down the road in my career field.

This book is what you really need if you want to polish your grammar and its usage. I possess many books and this one tops them all for me any way.I am not a grammar guru but a tudent wishing to improve my grammar and this book is a gem. I don't understand the loose leaf format though???.

This is a great reference book when in doubt about any punctuation or grammar. Quick reference and easy to find what you are looking for. A MUST to have if you need to be accurate in writing or editing. I received the book quickly, purchased through Amazon.

The colleague I bought it for finds it a good reference manual.
