Absolutely amazing, powerful, super portable handheld android emulation machine
Awesome android emulation console. Only comes with 128gb of storage, so a large micro sd card is recommended since the games you'll more than likely want to load onto this thing are quite big and the size can add up fast. The OLED screen is absolutely gorgeous and the device feels amazing in the hands. Retroid makes a grip for this handheld that makes it a little bigger, but supposedly improves the ergonomics by a ton. If I could improve one thing, it would be for the left stick to be above the d-pad instead of below it. It's a relatively small thing, but would make this device so much more comfortable for playing more modern games. Anyway, this thing is pretty powerful and can play games from any retro console up to the 6th gen, some games from a more modern console, Windows games through Winlator, and native android games. This thing is the perfect size for portability and you really just can't beat that screen. Totally recommended, but probably not for total beginners like one of the other reviewers who expected games to come preloaded.

Mediocrity without longevity.
Putting this out front: Loves to crash on even mundane tasks like scraping box art. Overheats easily. Hangs constantly trying to change windows or especially after an app install. This is the big deal-breaker.Runs most things decently but there are hiccups, and it's clear it's the components and the jury-rigged firmware is at fault. Just about everything in this is either recycled or the cheapest one could get. I get these are designed to be e-waste recycling, but many who love them don't know that or any better.Screen quality is ok at the early stages, but as this is a bargain bin oled there is already burn-in and ghosting issues that will only get worse over time. Picture quality is about as good as a decent lcd. Only remarkable if you've never seen an oled before.TERRIBLE speakers, even with the eq bandaid "fix" that retroid said they would implement on the firmware level but never did. Somehow the headphone out is even worse. Anbernic "quality" sound without the "fix."Very small and awkward to hold, like a less-ergonomic version of the original gba. If anything, the "grip" bumps on the back make it harder to hold comfortably.Screen size is especially small for the aspect ratio; controls mean you can't hold it as close to your face as a phone of the same size. Sticks are good for getting in the way and little else.Battery life is not steam deck bad, but it's nowhere near as good as you would hope for a "set it and forget it" / "pick up and play" device. Lasts a relatively long time when on airplane + battery saver with nothing running in the background on standby. With wifi on and no battery saver, it goes down about 10% every 8 hours, and that might be another dealbreaker.Plastic is cheap, but not steam deck or anbernic level terrible. I would not be shocked if the plastic started to disintegrate in a few years like the ayn odin 1 and retroid pocket flip 1.Buttons are small but not ayn-level microscopic.Just about every part of this device is mediocre, a LITTLE better than other ewaste handhelds but not by much. Certainly not worth the praise it gets. Certainly not worth the money it costs after retroid added $100 to their flagship prices.I get these devices are mostly bought by guys going through a midlife crisis and want to relive their youths, and in turn haven't played much games in 20+ years, but there is better out there. Maybe not better performance for the price, but that (very unstable) performance comes at the cost that either the screen, battery, or plastic shell not lasting the year. Good luck brining that up in any online communities for emulator/piracy devices like this, because you WILL be shouted down.the company likes to make promises about fixes to real problems the devices have for momentary good press and good will, then never does anything just long enough for the "community" to forget about it. Keep in mind, pre-2020 this company was doing dropship scams with pop-up clothing and lifestyle webstores that were only up for about 3 months at a time with no shipped orders (look up "nova silk road sarl").The retroid pocket 4 pro is only a year old and people are already giving reports of the screen cutting out or the batteries not holding a charge and / or swelling (this is caused often by not playing a device for 6+ months). Add in an already low quality oled (which NEED robust firmware to not burn themselves out, which this DOES NOT HAVE), and I cannot recommend this or this brand. In a lot of ways, the "community" did this to itself by expecting nothing and demanding self-regulated compliance just to "relive their childhoods." Only way to win this game is to not play.

Amazing
Amazing gaming powerhouse as long as you know what you're buying. It takes time to download your apps and set them up. Also this doesn't include any games roms so research the setup process before deciding to buy.

Huh?
So for $260 you're getting a piece of hardware that comes with no software and no mention of what games/software/emulators it's able to run. Good luck with that.

Jack of all trades retro device!
An amazing device. Requires setting up everything and its well worth the time. I bring this with me almost everytime I go out. I primary use it for NES, SNES, N64, GC, GB, GBA, DS, and 3DS emu. If you are looking for a cheap device with preinstalled games, look elsewhere.

Amazing but a little pricey
This thing does it all! Make sure you follow a setup guide from YouTube (something like a RetroGameCorps video).
