How colorfast is this dye after rinsing/washing? Will it rub off on other fabrics?

It probably depends on the fabric and the mordant. My experience on a cotton shirt was that it lost some color through the first few washings.

Will this work on cotton?

Yes. But I tested the color with the corner of a paper towel after Googling the instructions on their website. If the paper towel doesn’t look black, add more dye. I had to use 3 bottles of dye to do half a washing machine full of faded Black slacks for work. It worked well but sometimes too much diluted water. Add more dye and it’s like INK! Perfection. Just use the Rit Colorfast after to set it!

Will it stain my washing machine?

The website suggests washing your machine with the hottest setting and some old white towels and bleach. Washing machine was fine after 1 run.

can i dye a Levis jean black but a little faded

Depth of color depends on amount of dye and/or amount of water you use.
