If you are a Halo fan and love Sci-Fi then this book is a must read story for you!
This is an excellent Halo book the covers the early military career of John 117 and the first 12 Spartans. John is just 15 years old and a Petty Officer First Class in charge of the Spartans. He is leading a team of twelve Spartans than includes himself. They are being assigned to be an attack force to board and steal alien technology from the Covenant and steal the space ship if possible and if not, destroy the ship. They have had a couple of missions and they have been successful so far. John has lost one Spartan on a previous boarding mission and it affects his combat decisions and he has to learn how to properly lead his team into battle. The Spartans are added into an elite fighting battalion of ODST shock drop troops, the Black Daggers, and be supplied with the best of the stealth space ships the UNSC has.The problem is that the Black Daggers don’t know who the Spartans are or what they can do. The commanders don’t trust the Spartans when the learn how young they are. On top of that, the human insurgents spying on the UNSC and ONI, want the Spartans to be killed by the aliens so they are not a threat to the freedom of the human colonies…..This is an excellent book and one of the best of the Halo books. It is well written and it is full of top notch action. It also follows the Halo canon style of story telling and the development of the main characters of the Halo saga.Troy Denning has done a very good job in following the development of the Halo characters and his book is well written like the original books of Eric Nylund.I have not been a fan of some of the last books written on the Halo series as some of the new authors have taken it upon themselves to destroy some of the characters of the Halo cast and write boring political books. This book is excellent Sci-Fi and it provides great detail of the development of the young Spartan team and how John 117 becomes a Master Chief Petty Officer commanding an entire battle operation. It is the turning point in John 117’s military career and so begins the legend of the best fighting soldier of all time. The goal is to defeat the Covenant before they can conquer all of Mankind with their superior technology! This is a great story and I liked it a lot! If you are a Halo fan and love Sci-Fi then this book is a must read story for you!

One of the best
I have been reading Halo novels ever since the first one from Eric Nylund came out and I liked most of them because of the stories and the universe. Some were really good too such as the Forerunner trilogy from Greg Bear and the New/Bad Blood from Matt Forbeck.Silent Storm is something else. The way it introduces and uses characters you already know, and I hope love, is smart and definitely something Halo was missing. It helps you understand the Master Chief legend before Halo CE and how John became the Spartan you played for so many hours. It's action-packed without getting repetitive and it's full of little details the most hardcore fans will enjoy.Even if you've only played the games, read a few books (most likely the original trilogy), this book is super accessible for newcomers.I don't want to get too much into details but I loved it. Plain and simple. A must read.

One of the Best Halo Books
First, Silent storm is a hardcover book, which is fantastic. The dust jacket is very high quality and beautiful, and the book itself will hold up a lot better than the paperbacks they normally put out for the Halo series. The story itself is a wonderful throwback to the Eric Nylund days of the Halo novels. This book connects and references many different stories and places in the Halo universe, and they come out stronger for it. However, it does not rely on the reader knowing these other stories to tell its own. The main conflict is interesting and not a retread of a similar story in the Halo universe. It will keep you engaged with its own little bit of mystery and development. While standing on the considerable amount of lore of previous Halo stories, this book not only enhances what came before it, but in many way surpasses it. It is a must read for Halo and Sci Fi fans.

Amazing. I'm having a hard time finding words for how much I love this book. There is a definite element of nostalgia, takes me back to the beginning. It's been almost 10 years since we got a book from the Master Chief's POV and this absolutely did not disappoint. My heart skipped a beat when I read certain character's names that hadn't been written about in a while. It's an absolutely beautiful, incredible read. Cannot recommend enough.

Good read, though so familiar.
Enjoyed the book especially as it involved Masterchief, though puzzled as to why this book was essentially a re-telling of the Spartan origins story.

Explosions, Plasma and Spartans what else do you need
Fantastically written with some very engaging moments, the book is let down slightly for long time fans with slightly too at ease speech from some characters but this is a very minor criticism in an overall fantastic book

A great book by Mr Denning
The story is great. It's just a few months since the war began. Chief is just fifteen years old and leading a group of twelve Spartans. Then it shows how Sergeant Johnson proved to be a mentor for him. Chief finds it difficult to adjust with the normal soldiers at first but as the story continues he becomes familiar with their ways. The character development is pretty well presented. One of the greatest things that I found was the political struggle both within Humanity and a Covenant fleet. Well it wasn't all that political in the Covenant, it was just an annoying prophet. The book will remind you of the classic Halo books and this is just great. The end of the story leaves the reader with a lot of questions and makes you to know more about what will happen next. I just can't wait to read Oblivion now that I have read this!

Operation: SILENT STORM
