During the COVID shut down I purchased a Honeywell RTH9585WF for my home. The install was pretty straight forward, went easily and WIFI hookup went without a hitch. Setting up the Total Comfort Control account to permit phone app access was painless as well. The RTH9585 came with a really nice instruction manual, Quick Start guide, wall mount plate and necessary hardware. Great looking unit that functions well. Shortly thereafter I purchased another for my mothers home so we can keep an eye on her heating and cooling. As with the first unit, install and WIFI set up went without a hitch. Both functioned without fail for the past 6 years. While at my mothers home a few weeks ago, I noticed that the thermostat was reading ambient temperature low, about 9 to 10 degrees. I took a precision room thermometer and ran it for a few days alongside the Honeywell unit to verify the readings. Yup, there was an issue there. I killed the power to the thermostat to initiate a reboot of the processor hoping that a glitch caused by a surge or power out could remedy the issue. I notices that when the thermostat powered back on, it read the ambient temperature correctly, but then drifted down 10 degrees colder over 15 minutes or so. Hmmm. I tried to restore factory settings to see if that would cure the ills. No good. This unit has an issue whereas wen it powers on, and warms up, it will read ambient temperature low by about 10 degrees repeatedly. I just purchased and installed an identical replacement and it is functioning flawlessly, as I would expect. Moms on in years and not technical, so what goes in there needs to be reliable and function as expected with the ability of someone to access and monitor remotely the thermostat. My experience with the first two was good so I decided to get another one as a replacement. These seem to be on the discontinued list as the RTH 9600 are replacing them. There is a price drop on the right now I guess until stocks are depleted. Oddly, the nice instruction manual is no longer shipping with them.

Installation was easy other than getting it set-up with the Honeywell account. I'm using it at work for a radiant tube heater. The device wasn't detected at Honeywell even though it connected to the Internet no problem. I actually left it for several months because I didn't have time to reset it to factory defaults and start over again. This is for my shop at work and the guys needed heat. So I just got around to trying again about a month ago and it is recognized now (without resetting to default). Not sure when it was recognized on my Honeywell account, might have been 2 hours later, 2 weeks later, 2 months later. Don't know because I just checked it again recently. LOL. So not sure I would hold that against them. Once it was recognized on my Honeywell account then it worked great through the app and web page; exactly as expected. Today I decided to connect it to my Amazon Alexa devices we have scattered around the office and shop. Downloaded the skill and it works great. Very simple to use. "Alexa what is the temperature in the SHOP?", "Alexa set the SHOP to 70 degrees." Works perfectly and very quickly. I like it so much that I came on here to give a review and also to buy another for the office. I read a review where someone who bought this wasn't happy with the screen. Made me take a second look at mine. It is dull when its not in use but as soon as you press the screen it brightens up. You can see this in 2 of the pictures I attached. Everything is personal preference of course and I'm not discounting what the other buyer said, but I find the screen looks great. Full disclosure, this is my first smart thermostat so I'm not comparing it to anything else.
