Great sword for collectors, or anime otakus.
I got this sword because i was planning on cosplaying as Himura Kenshin on a few occasions. i'll start off saying this is a great sword for what it is. I am a moderately successful blacksmith in the Japanese arts, and will criticize this sword both cosmetically and functionally. there are a few problems, but none too serious. the worst parts are that the saya (scabbard) is made of a very light wood, and then covered in a urethane plastic that makes it feel very flimsy, as if it was a toy. a pure wooden saya would have been just a good, if not better; and the second disappointment was that the hamon, (temper line on the blade), was not authentic, but rather wire brushed on for aesthetic purposes only. at times, it is acceptable to have a wire brush hamon for decoration, but that is only on already heat treated blades that did not require the clay tempering that creates the pattern of the hamon. however, 1060 carbon steel is not the kind of steel that would require a fake hamon; that is, if it was correctly heat treated, which this seems not to be. it is sharp out of the box, evident by the cleanly cut box I tested the blade on. the blade of course, is a reverse blade, but since it was not heat treated, it is still not extremely effective as a weapon. it is still able to cut through bottles and the such, but not heavy cutting, as it would damage the blade. (the cardboard mentioned before ALONE created some minute scratches on the blade that i was able to polish out.) Now back to the saya. it was made cheaply, and en masse. you can tell, because the saya is not made to fit the sword flush, as it has some slight shaking while moving around. the Sageo is made out of cotton, and is nicely tied when it is taken out of the box. the Habaki, (collar of the blade used to hold the sword in the saya), is made of brass, and the tsuba, (hand guard), is made of what seems to be copper painted black, with brass seppa (spacers for the fittings). The ito (wrap around the handle)is made of black cotton cordage, and is very tight. the kashira (cap at the end of the handle)is made of copper that has been slightly blackened, but is still funtional. the inlay under the ito is real same, (ray skin), with some cheaply made menuki (ornamental/funtional pieces under the ito), and bamboo mekugi (pegs used to hold the tsuka (handle) to the tang of the sword. all in all, i am not at all surprised at the quality, but i still appreciate the novelty of a fairly functional reverse-blade katana that i proudly add to my collection. definitely a buy that is worth the money.

well worth it
this is a more "expensive" relic katana that iv ever bought. normally i buy $30esh at anime conventions. so this being almost 80 shipped is well worth it. huge step in quality from the 30 dollar ones. the gold details are not as bright as the pictures they use are which i like. i think the pictures the gold is so bright it looks cheap but in person at first glance it looks real. the handle feels great idk what they used to rap it with but it is so much softer than the cheap katanas. nothing is lose, it is so solid and nothing seems to be glued on. the best part i think is how tight it fits into the Saya or holder w/e u wanna call it. it is a very satisfying fit compared to the $30 katanas i used to get that i won't get those any more after seeing this price point. nothing shakes or makes noise when i shake it around, its solid. the bag it comes with is nice. its not like a feather in there but still a nice touch. the only thing that does not match their pictures is the part between the guard and the collar i want to call it a spacer but in my picture is has a more pronounced jagged edges. in their pictures its not as pronounced, but that is very minor in my eyes; but worth mentioning i guess. id buy this again if i ever needed to in the end :) last thing is it is made by Ten Ryu that is not mentioned in the description or anything but thats the box it came in. so if u own anything or know of Ten Ryu then u know what to expect

Sakabato katana
Let's start out with the pros of this katana 1). full tang 2). The sheath is made of bamboo and has a nice black finish on it 3). The blade was well oiled out of the box 4). The blade is kinda Sharp and is reverse just like in the anime or manga series 5).the guard for the katana is made of brass and is the correct one for the anime or manga series 5). The katana is made by tenryu which is a company owned by Masahiro which makes good quality katanas at a reasonable price the cons 6). No made in China stamped on the blade or on the guard or any wear 1). There was a small scratch on the bottom of the sheath not that big of a deal 2). One of the brass spacers has some wear marks from taking the katana out of the sheath again not a big deal 3).fake mamo again not a big deal 4). The katana come in good shape not perfect shape but not that big of a deal 5). You don't have one yet overall not a bad katana for the money you could spend up to $200-$300 for a reverse blade katana from some other website but this katana is made reasonable well considering the price if you are looking for a reverse blade katana then you should buy this one all the other reverse blade katanas on this website are all made by tenryu or masahiro so why spend more money on the same thing as this

One of the best swords I have ever held and owned....so far.
My jaw literally, was left dangling upon receiving and holding this sword with my own 2 hands. Since I am one of the many fans of Rurouni Kenshin, I willed myself to obtain this replica. I'm no expert on katanas but unsheathing the sword from its saya (scabbard) and seeing the glint of its blade just mesmerized me. Mind you, it IS SHARP as the product description claims. I don't think they would allow it on any Anime Conventions or cosplay but if you're a huge fan of the series, I urge you to get one for yourself and be ready to be stunned by its beauty. After a few mighty swings (without hitting anything), the blade seems to be holding perfectly well to its tsuka. I had some ornamental swords before but the Sakabato is really worth every buck that I spent. Get one for yourself, whether you're a fan of the series or if you're into collecting swords and you won't be disappointed.
