As I write this, I'm using the hub's Ethernet port as well as USB ports on Ubuntu 18.04.HDMI didn't work out of the box, which makes sense. But the remainder of the non-video ports should work without any additional drivers.The unit runs warmer than expected, but the casing pretty loosely fits around the ports, so it allows good airflow.

Item update July 15, 2019I'm changing starts from 1 to 4, because of the fantastic customer service. Customer service has been very responsive and sent me a replacement hub free of charge. I'm going to test the hub for a couple weeks and update***********The device was getting quite hot from the get go, but I didn't pay much attention because it worked. Today it completely failed. It doesn't charge my laptop. Return window is closed so I'm stuck with a faulty device. Low quality,,,,

This device is used on my Windows surface to provide all the ports I need, its cheap, does exactly what I need it to, and I didn't need any additional drivers for it. I don't make heavy use of it, but its a great all in one device for me.

The video for this product is very misleading. It does not fit into the lightning port on an IMAC so if you are an Apple user, don't expect this to fit. On the demo video they show it plugging into a lightning port but in reality, it does not fit. I am sending it back for a refund. BUYER BEWARE, if you are not technical, this is not properly explained. I hasten to add that the tech support for this company is VERY GOOD. They were extremely helpful and IMMEDIATELY responded to my request for additional information. I am disappointed it didn't fit because I would have loved to have added it to my IMAC to allow for easier peripheral access. If you have a USB C port you'll be fine, I didn't know what this was and on the DEMO VIDEO they show it plugging into an IMAC Lightning port, that's what confused me. This review is not a condemnation of this product, it's more of a warning to the buyer to make sure it's the correct port fit for your computer.

I have not tried the VGA or RJ-45 yet, but the USB and SD reader work perfectly. The unit gets quite warm, as expected. I added a 1ft USB-C extension cable as my port is in the middle of the back of the laptop as the 6 inch cable on the unit is a bit too short. I transfer lots of photos and have not noticed a problem with speed.

I purchased this unit a couple of weeks ago in anticipation of getting a new macbook pro from my employer. I just received my macbook and plugged this unit into my computer, plugged VGA and power cable and within minutes it became almost too hot to touch. I also plugged in a thumb drive into the unit and it stopped working after a while because of heat. I am not sure if this is how it supposed to work but if it continues to give off heat like this it will not last long. I hope its not a fire hazard if I leave it unattended for a while.----------------------------After I posted this review I received a very nice email from the seller. They offered to work with me if the unit stops working because of heat. I appreciate that. Perhaps my unit is somewhat defective and this is why it is getting so hot. I will come back to work in January and see how it holds up. Perhaps it will be ok.

USB-c dongle arrived quickly and works great. Have tested USB, Ethernet, HDMI and VGA with MacBook Pro (2017) and it works perfectly (although I do not use or have tested with power connection). Nice aluminum build, good fit and finish, highly recommended. Very nice compact dongle to carry around and have basically all connections I'd need.

The media could not be loaded. I purchased this adapter on January 1, 2019 mainly because of the ethernet port. I hooked it up to my 2018 MacBook Pro and connecting only my iPhone 8+, after about 30 minutes I got a message on my screen saying that it was drawing too much power. Went to unplug the adapter and almost burnt my hand on the unit, because it got extremely hot. Not sure what the temperature was but it was hot enough to evaporate a drop of water. I don’t know if I will be using it again because of it being a fire hazard. After this happens I went through some of the review and found that other customers are having the same issue with this adapter.
