Artistic Wire, 26 Gauge Silver Plated Tarnish Resistant Colored Copper Craft Jewelry Wrapping Wire, Gold Color, 15 yd

Artistic wire is one of the only brands that actually holds really well and hardly tarnishes. With extreme wear it will, but it's really quite good and it's the best brand I've found and it's the only thing I use for all my jewelry other than 925 sterling silver. I've been making and selling jewelry since 2017 on Etsy and in local gift shops and this is my favorite brand!

I create jewelry for myself and as gifts. For gifts I always use sterling silver, but it's expensive to use it for more casual personal jewelry. I decided to give this a try because I'd heard that it was a good way to get the brightness of sterling silver without the high cost.It is definitely bright and shiney, and in my research I'd heard it has a slightly warm/yellow cast but I don't find that to be true. It feels completely different from non-coated wire - very slick. It's thicker at 22 gauge than a non-coated sterling silver, noticeably so in fact. I ordered a 26 gauge and may even order a 28 gauge as a comparable replacement to my 24 gauge sterling silver. The 22 gauge is what I would normally think of 20 gauge.This is a soft wire - fantastic for wrapped/rosary/closed loops, but I hesitate to use it for open loops or eye pins unless it was in a light necklace or earrings, something that doesn't get tugged too often. I'll give it a try and update later, I just started playing with it tonight.I'd heard from research as well that the copper is exposed when the wire is cut since this is a copper plated wire. I couldn't see it in the 22 gauge. Perhaps in an 18 or 16, something really thick. Otherwise it's pretty consistent with the silver color.The only word of warning is that this wire can be scratched. I tend to work slowly and carefully so it's not an issue - the few scratches are not noticeable on the piece over all - but I've seen recommendations to get nylon covers for your tools. I would just recommend experimenting with it to see for yourself before spending the money on the nylon covers.Definitely glad I purchased it and will be using it more frequently in the future.

The wire itself is malleable, has a pretty whitish silver finish, and is tarnish-free. The softness of the metal, however, presents both a pro and a con--it is easy to bend and shape, but at the same time it is just as easy to nick up and scrape. Although in theory it could make for great wire writing jewelry, the likelihood of ending up with anything presentable (i.e. sans scrapes) is small.PROS:-MALLEABLE: very easy to shape and bend, which makes it *perfect* for wire writing jewelry.-THICK (18 gauge): thick enough not to unintentionally bend completely out of shape-NON-TARNISH: the pretty silvery finish, will stay a pretty silvery finish.-CHEAP: you get 4 yard of this stuff for six bucks; great bang-for-your-buck.CONS:-NOT HIGH-QUALITY: I'd have to agree with a previous reviewer, in that this is essentially like paperclip metal. Tarnish-free with a silver finish, but paperclip metal nonetheless. If you want something to practice on, why buy this when you can just use some spare paperclips?-SCRAPES/NICKS EASILY: shaping loops with round nose pliers won't inflict any major damage, but doing literally anything else will cause the metal to scrape up--badly.OVERALL: Fine for making jump rings and the like, which don't require much crimping/flattening with pliers. Decent for practice wire writing, but I wouldn't use it for any finished wire writing jewelry. Great deal (4 yards of silvery tarnish-free wire) but it would be difficult to make anything presentable out of it.

This is the only brand I use for silver wire. I have been making wired art and jewelry for a long time and have tried many different types and for me this is the only one I'll use any more. 18 gauge works great for the hooks I use, (really make) to create suncatchers.

I purchased for wire wrapping. I was just beginning, so I did gouge it a bit and you could see the copper underneath. If you were better practiced, it would not be an issue.

I needed this to restore a pair of old Christmas ornaments. They needed a large number of spring-like festoons--the original had corroded and broken over the decades. This wire was just right for the job. I twisted lengths of it around a thin rod and had the new festoons ready in no time.

Wire is easy to work with sturdy yet elegant for delicate designs.
