For making cat food, can you grind whole rabbits or a turkey?

As per STX International customer service, "Unfortunately our meat grinders cannot grind turkey or pheasant bones -- and they cannot grind deer bones. Our units also cannot grind rodents, guinea pigs, nor muskrats. We do know that there are meat grinders out there that can probably do this - but I am sorry to say that our meat grinders cannot. Our Magnum 1800 can only grind chicken bones, rabbit bones (small rabbits), and quail bones (very small birds with delicate bones)."

If the feed tube is only 2", how do they push in those chicken thighs & legs?

Most of them will fit ok into the tube. If they are "giant" chicken legs you have to cut off a piece of the side to push it through. You also need topound the leg bone to make it softer to make the grinder last. We have been using it for quite a while and it is a real trooper. We do about40 to 50# of meat every 2 or 3 weeks for our cats. Also the company making this one is willing to answer any questions or problems you haveon their merchandise and I find that refreshing in todays market. Good service makes the product the right one to buy in my opinion. Hope that helps.

I need to grind COOKED chicken bones on a regular basis. Which model can handle them…STX 1800 Magnum or STX 3000 Turboforce?

Raw chicken bones are soft, cooking them makes them brittle and hard..Best way to grind is very cold, not frozen chicken.For best results, the chicken should be very cold but not frozen.If you have trouble with the chicken pieces being too big for the feeding tube, put the chicken in a plastic bag, then take a cleaver and break up the chicken a bit so that it can fit down the feeding tube better.When grinding bones, you should use the coarsest grinding plate for a first grind.Try using chicken thighs instead of drumsticks since drumsticks has a lot more skin, sinew and cartilage which can clog up the machine.Put the side with the smaller joint into the feeding tube first.
