is it possible to use this somehow to plug in a second laptop to Ethernet. Don’t have WiFi and want my son to work next to me on his laptop.

Hello! This dock will only provide one internet connection so it doesn’t sound like the solution you’re looking for. If you have a single Ethernet cable and you want two laptops online, have a look at an Ethernet Switch. Netgear make good ones.

What other brand laptops is this dock suitable for?

It will work with any laptop with DisplayLink drivers installed (displaylink.com/downloads) as this docking station is DisplayLink certified. I had mine working with Lenovo as well as non-Lenovo laptops like Microsoft Surface, Dell, Apple MacBook and even old pre-USB3.0 hardware. This is the most versatile dock I have even owned.
