I have used the Salt X II reel to fish saltwater for almost a year and it performs just like it was new. This reel casts smooth and effortlessly reels-in all size fish. I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a quality reel.

I already have this exact reel in a 6000, and just bought another off here I'm waiting on. I also have a couple Van Staal reels...one about ten years old, and one about 6 months old....the older one is a VR, and the newest a VSX2. Anyway, while of course the VS reels are fantastic, the Salt X 2 is so much more worth the money, and in several ways it's even better than the VS reels. For one, they come out of the box much smoother. 2, they have titanium in critical areas that the VS reels don't. I don't care about the ability to switch sides with the crank...I never would need to, even when jigging, but some folks might actually appreciate that they have that over the VS reels. To me, the drag even feels better. I have one of each brand mounted on matching Uglystik Tiger Elite Heavy Jigging rods, in 7'. The entire experience just feels better with the Salt. So much so, again, I just purchased another one and I'm currently committed to making these my daily go-to rigs. I absolutely cannot recommend these reels more. No way anyone can convince me that they'd prefer the feel of the VS over these. Yeah, the VS reels have more cool-factor, and I AM a fan myself, but that is no longer because I don't think their equal is out there....there is one, but just not quite the eye-candy the VS reels are. I won't pay double for eye-candy! I've had the Salt X 2 submerged several times now...once strapped in my kayak that sank off the cost of Oregon...it was down there a couple hours! I got it all back, thankfully, and when I got back to camp I of course was worried about ingress, and so I took that reel apart, and was amazed that it was completely free of ANY moisture. That was the very last thing I needed to convinced me they are a worthy alternative. Buy this reel with confidence. I hope in ten years I still feel this way but, I'm sure at this point I will.
