ABCs of Engineering: The Essential STEM Board Book of First Engineering Words for Kids (Science Gifts for Kids) (Baby University)

This is a great buy. A guy I work with got given the Organic Chemistry one. I am an electrical engineer so bought this for my grandson whose father is also an electrical/electronic engineer. Amazingly it is his favorite book and he already says a few of the words like A is for Amplifier. Budding engineer in the making I love it. The book is robust quality and nicely illustrated. Very pleased with this purchase.

Give this book to all my coworkers who are expecting a baby and it is always well appreciated. It's great how it goes over each concept in 3 levels of detail and has a good diagram on each page.

Easy to follow for my 2 year old he repeats the big words. I love that there is the explanation to each work and then below a more detailed description as he gets older!

Got this as a baby gift for my supervisor, who's an electrical engineer. It's a clever gift for an engineer, but not perfect. Some of the explanations are just overly simplistic, which is to be expected in a baby book, so it's not to be used as a reference for adults to understand these concepts. The following are a few errors I would correct, with the first being the most glaring. E is for Electricity says, "The amount of flowing electrons is called a current, and how fast they flow is called voltage." I would correct to "The amount of flowing electrons is called charge (or number of coulombs), and how fast they flow is called current." Then I'd tag on at the end, "The electrical pressure is called voltage." The I for Inductor page says "An inductor is made by wrapping wire around magnetic material, like a piece of iron." The sentence could have stopped with "wire" or "wire in a coil." It's true that an inductor is sometimes wrapped around a magnetic material, especially in the case where two inductors are used to make a transformer, but it doesn't have to be. On the "O is for Ohm" page, the diagram depicts more electrons on one side of the resistor than the other. This implies the resistor somehow "uses up" electrons, which isn't the case. There is a voltage drop over a resistor, not a current difference. I don't know how it could be depicted better. Those are the biggest mistakes I noticed as a EE, but still enjoyed the book and would consider purchasing it for other coworkers as baby gifts!

I manage an engineering team and I give out a copy every time a team member has a baby- they love it! Its a great book!

I love how there are different stages you can read based on their age. And the information is quite detailed, a lot more than I ever expected it to be. Great book for tiny engineers :)
