Can I change the light kit

Yes, the Harbor Breeze Ceiling Fan Light Kit # 0717248 from Lowes works great, though it does require the original light switch cover to be used (it's a component that comes with the fan, but isn't used unless you install it without the stock light unit).

Each blade is 10" wide overall span for each fan is 32 inches

Can a down rod be used with this fan?

Yes... We used a 24" downrod with this fan. Our ceiling is over 20 ft tall and we thought to lower it down for max performance. We tried the 36" down rod but found that the fan started to wobble/shake so decided to use a 24" instead.

Some of these double units they rotate around, do the 2 fans rotate around the light?

They do but are not supposed to. The mounting bracket is not indexed for the downward rod. It will rotate until it pulls on the wires. I have had to glue it in place twice in the last two months. Read some of the reviews addressing this major design flaw.
