Schwartz Bacon Flavour Bits, Smoky & Rich Flavour, Adds Texture to Classic Dishes, Versatile & Easy to Use, 320g

My love of bacon bits goes back to loading them up onto a Pizza Hut salads after a few beers with mates many years ago. I have found them a bit hard to come by in the supermarkets and had all but forgotten about then until I found these recently. I appreciate the they are not bacon and they are probably not the healthiest either but used in moderation, the crunch and flavour hit that they add to a nice fresh salad is irresistible. On the plus side, I do not feel the need to have a beer beforehand these days either.

Me and the children (specifically not my wife, who leans toward vegetarian), love bacon and baked pancetta in particular. So it seemed like a good idea to have this fairly large jar of bacon bits at hand to sprinkle bacon bits on salads, sandwiches and pasta’s. However I primarily bought it to add to my delicious egg-mayo-cress sandwiches. I’m still intrigued with these bacon bits, they taste like bacon crumbs and are a bit smoky/salty, but they leave pink stain on some foods like egg. So I suppose, as the description says, they are made from dried soybean flour, which makes them crunchy and then coated with bacon flavour. Can’t fault it too much, other than that the sealed jar wasn't as full as shown on the listing page. Might order again in due course if we run out.

31st Aug 2021 ----------------- I was waiting for this to come down from the £9.00+ prices I've seen and took a punt on this at £3.46 delivered from Amazon themselves. Firstly, it is a big tub/plastic container, 320g. Long shelf life of 06/2023, this will be finished way before then! On to the texture and flavour. Texture: ====== No different from the ones you can get in the major supermarkets (Bacon Crumbles in the packet), nice and crunchy and no oversized bits. Flavour: ====== Not too bad to be honest, it is better in my opinion against the supermarket ones, though I expected a better taste from a big brand like Schwartz. It has a nice smokey aroma and smokey bacon taste and certainly will work well with my salads and Potato Salads, there is a slight powdery residue if I am to be critical after you chew on it but maybe that's me being over critical. They don't come near the nice smokey flavours and taste from the American £10.00 brands (124g)you can find on here though very expensive, which I have tasted when in USA and brought some back, they are the real deal but this is a good compromise for the amount you get. Unless of course you have deep pockets, then the US ones found on here will definitely be a spend you may call a deal, however, I would not! The lid has 2 openings, one to sprinkle through the holes or a more open one where you can just heap a load onto whatever you intend to put this on. I have supplied some pics against Schwartz everyday Lamb Seasoning bottle to give you an idea of the size of this item.

Big size, bit salty but not much needed. I'll buy again.

Saves a lot of time frying bacon and chopping it up. The flavour is close but not an exact copy. For "sprinkling" into salads (etc) this does the job. For a greater concentration of bacon flavour, you are better off taking time to make the real thing.

Great salad topper, price is good for a quantity you get
