I love this CPU cooler. I have 3 of them. One BW model (which I'm reviewing here) and 2 of the other beige ones.I'm using this without a fan on my workstation: a Phenom II x6 (model 1055t) in a cheap case with the Power supply directly above it. Works great. (no overclock, this is my workstation. Gigabyte GA880GMUDH2)I'm also using this on my game rig: I have a 4770k overclocked to 4.6GHz with it. Runs like a champ. I ended up backing off the overclocking down to 4.5GHz because I did get 2 crashes... but I don't think it's because of the cooler... just my limited ability to tune the overclocking. I think I could crank up to 5GHz if I knew what I was doing with this CPU cooler. (Asus Z87-Plus)(Antec Three Hundred case)I also have a Hex Core i7 4930k workstation at work I use with this. I'm only overclocked to 4GHz but its very quiet. I can't even hear it running and it's beside my desk. It's in an Antec Three Hundred Two case and the top and rear fans really get the heat out of the case. (Asus P9X79)A lot of people go with the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, but I think this one will eat it's lunch. It has more mass to dissipate heat. I haven't had a problem with fitting in cases or memory clearance... but I do understand that may be an issue for some cases, motherboards, and memory.Of course, I'm using Arctic Silver V thermal paste in all the above applications. I didn't use the included paste.One thing worth noting is that the 140mm fan spins relatively slowly (400-600 RPM) compared to other CPU coolers. As such, my BIOS reported that it was a problem until I changed the fan speed at which the BIOS reports an error.Parts were all there and I really like the included screwdriver. I was able to assemble my entire system with that screwdriver. Good quality and magnetic tip.

I'm using this on an i5-2500k running at 4.5 GHz, in an older Lian Li case that doesn't have top or side panel ventilation. CPU runs about 60-62c during intensive gaming and 80c with the extreme LinX AVX load test (would never happen in real world use). It's about 2-4c cooler than the Hyper 212 with 2 fans that it replaced, quieter under normal loads, and doesn't have the quirks of direct contact heatsinks. Like all Thermalright products, the build quality and finishing is top notch. They also simplified the mounting system compared to some of their older products. It has a few parts, but once it's all put together, it's virtually impossible to install the heatsink any way but perfectly square and with the correct pressure. It's also easy to drop it in place without smudging the thermal paste all over.Because the whole thing "leans" towards the left hand side of the motherboard, it clears the memory slots and puts it closer to where you'll probably have an exhaust fan mounted. This would, however, make it more difficult to use two fans. The included fan is a fairly good fan, right down the middle of the performance to noise ratio. It's not one to throw out anyway, making it a good value since many less expensive heatsinks have crummy stock fans that are noisy at low RPM or use sleeve bearings.The only real complaint I have is TR's continued usage of the rinky-dink wire fan clips. They are hard to install without bending up the outermost layers of fins and always require a great deal of fiddling to get the fan snapped in when the heatsink is already installed inside a case. Even more so if it's in a small case. I suppose one argument is, if it's not broken don't fix it, but there are clearly better systems.Lastly, on an aesthetic note, it does look quite macho, without the massive weight and memory clearance problems many other high end air coolers suffer from.

For what it is, It's a great head sink but I HIGHLY recommend going for a water cooler instead. It's not the product's fault but to use air for cooling requires a much larger unit. That's just the physics of the situation.Water coolers have a much smaller profile and it does an equivalent, if not better, job. Again, the problem with this is that it takes a HUGE amount of space in the cabinet and kind of dominates the motherboard making modifications to the motherboard almost impossible without removing it. It's also (no fault of the design) a bit tricky to install and get the screws in place. This again is unavoidable due to the size of the unit.

I put this cooler on i7 3820, a prettiy hot cpu... It does a good job: 40°C on idle and about 50°C at full throttle... Well, it looks and feels well built. kinda heavy, as it should be. it is very silent, even when the fan speeds up. well, the installation process is easy: no problem at all. An important thing to keep in mind: it is HUGE. so make sure you have enough space, and design of your mb allows its installation. I have pretty tall memory modules (aluminium heat spreaders), and I got no problem with them...So, I can tell that I'm very happy with it. certainly it's worth each $ paid.

Grabbed one of these for a mini-itx build in a Bitfenix Prodigy case. It was a very right fit, necessitating the removal of the rear case fan. However, this cooler works well enough without it. I have not tried overclocking with this setup yet, but I feel confident this could handle it.

Keeps my FX-8320 at 4.3Ghz running cool in games and general stuff. It is big and heavy so 4 starts just for the size to performance of it.

I am definitely buying more of these. I purchased 3 of these for custom built rendernodes on i7 4790k. They run 24/7 @ 100% and have never exceeded 43 reg celcius. That is just amazing. Compare this to the water cooler h60i on i7 3770k with the same load. I get 70degs celcs sometimes.

I have always used Thermal Right and have yet to be disappointed. Actually not far behind the water cooling solutions without the fear of losing your investment should the unit spring a leak.

Initially I swapped from a stock Intel cooler (i5 2500K) and got myself a Corsair H80i water cooling setup. That was OK but after initially thinking it was quiet, I decided to return it and try out this HR-02 Macho.I guess it would be more straightforward to install with the motherboard removed, but I was able to access the back of the board while it was in the case. With a bit of patience and some swearing, I had installed in about 20 minutes. It's quite fiddly to locate the screws and I found it easier to do the one which is accessed down through the heatsink first.I've got two 140mm corsair fans in the front of the case, drawing air in towards the Thermalright fan, which is blowing through the heatsink towards the back of the case. At the back of the case I have another Corsair 120mm fan blowing out the warm air. It's close enough to the heatsink to be helping to suck the air through the heatsink too.The fans at idle are all set to be running at about 550rpm so as you can imagine they're pretty much silent. At full speed the HR-02 fan become audible but in no way is it noticable.I've run Prime95 for about 45 minutes and the core temps never went about 52 degrees. A few days earlier I'd done the same test with the stock cooler and it was hitting 95 degrees. Even the H80i was giving around 62 degrees.I've done everything I can with stress testing to hit higher temperatures but it's not happening!A word of warning, it's huge! I have a Corsair 300R case and an Asus P8Z77-V LX motherboard. To get this item to fit I've had to move my two ram sticks to slots 2 and 4 from 1 and 3. So if ever I want add more RAM I'll be struggling. My RAM is HyperX Beast with the heatinks, so I'm not sure if I removed those heatsinks it would fit better. Hope that makes sense!All in all a brilliant piece of kit though and, in my opinion, far superior to the H80i water cooling.

Works well when fitted achieving low CPU temperatures. However, it is a little tricky to fit, Basically the main lump of copper and aluminium it sits on top of the CPU and a metal plate is placed over the top that you have to screw down to a frame that you have previously secured to the motherboard. It is very difficult to stop the heatsink squirming around as you try to fit and tighten the two screws securing the plate to the frame. This is despite the fact that the heatsink is supplied with a very good, long and extremely magnetic screwdriver. This screwdriver is really needed since one of the screws has to be tightened through the depth of the heatsink's fins.

I got this a few weeks ago, it's very big and impressive as expected. I have been working on making my PC completely passive because I play much music from my PC to DAC and all fans and moving parts makes noise in the system that can be heard. Well first heard when you remove the moving part. So my plan was to use HR-02 Macho completely passive on my Intel i7 2600K CPU and it works fine (I use open side PC and no fans). The temp goes from 43-50 with normal use, but I do not play much games only very light ones. Tried Dota 2 though and the CPU went to 74 degree and VGA card 64 degrees, so too high in my book and the game is not super heavy. I also have made my VGA Card passive, so suspect that the heat from grill went up in the HR-02 when I played Dota 2 and made it hotter. The 140 fan that comes with HR-02 looks great, good quality feel and should be very quiet like 18-19 db, so nice you don't have to buy it seperately. In all I'm super happy with the cooler, but be ware of that you have to get you motherboard out because of backplate, but after that it was easy to put together. Also download a temp monitor program like Intel Desktop Utility (if your cpu is from Intel)if you go passive like me. It's fantastic to have a completely silent PC, it isn't for everyone, but if you want to be a computer audiophile and have one computer for all tasks, noise has to be removed as much as possible.

This Thermalright HR-02 Macho runs my i5 3570k on 25 degrees while idle and 40-45C on full load!Its very noyseless even when running at full speed (1350rpm).It's very easy to install and included in the package there are a great sachet of thermal paste and a screwdriver very long.Only a warning: it's huge!! Then verify that enter in your case!

Good cooling performance. Have taken one star off as due to its size it is quite difficult to fit.

Works great on my 4th Gen i5. Running games at high/ultra settings and never see my cpu core temp go above 45C and 61C in OC in benchmark tests. All cpu's should come with one.

Avevo sempre considerato il dissipatore un componente secondario rispetto alle altre componenti del computer, infatti avevo acquistato questo dissipatore al solo scopo di silenziare un pc.Ho dovuto ricredermi, un buon dissipatore permette di conciliare stabilità, prestazioni elevate in overclock e silenziosità.L'HR-02 rev.A si è dimostrato talmente efficace che l'ho usato anche in configurazioni senza ventola (in cabinet ben arieggiati però), quella in dotazione è comunque silenziosissima.Sono ormai 6 anni che lo posseggo ed è ancora come nuovo, avendo deciso di passare ad un Ryzen con socket AM4 ho verificato che il kit di montaggio originale non è compatibile ma nel 2017 Thermalright forniva quello aggiornato con l'interasse dei fori di fissaggio rivisto. Tale kit è risultato introvabile negli store.Mi sono messo in contatto col supporto globale di Thermalright che mi ha risposto immediatamente e al solo costo della spedizione da Taiwan (via aereo, pari a 15 dollari) mi ha fatto avere i pezzi necessari, ricevuti a casa in circa 10 giorni.Eccezionale, servizio esemplare per un prodotto acquistato ben 6 anni fa!!

Der Thermalright Macho Rev A. Ziemlich groß, laut und recht teuer.Hat mich damals überzeugt, auch wenn ich heute eher zu Noctua greifen würde. Die sind jedoch nochmal eine andere Klasse, da vor allem die Größe nochmal einen guten Sprung nimmt und man sich Big - Tower - Gehäuse überlegen sollte.Der Kühler hier kühlt gut. Ohne Frage. Der Preis ist aber hoch. Und der zweite Preis ist: die Lautstärke.Die Kombination macht nicht soviel Freude.Die Montage geht gut von der Hand und vor allem ist hier ein toller Schraubenzieher beigelegt, den ich heute noch benutze (Kauf: 2013).Deshalb gibt es in der Gesamtbewertung (noch) 4 aus 5.

Ho acquistato questo dissipatore per il mio I7 3770K perché la ventola originale Intel risultava essere rumorosa e davvero poco performante. Devo dire che è molto grande per cui se qualcuno dovesse essere interessato all'acquisto suggerisco di verificare con attenzione gli ingombri, sconsiglio inoltre l'utilizzo di memorie molto alte (come le corsair dominator) meglio andare sul sicuro con memorie low profile. Nel mio caso l'ho utilizzato in modo passivo non usufruendo della ventola in dotazione ma sfruttando una ventola noctua da 140 mm che ho posizionato sulla parte superiore del mio case (Lian-Li PC-A05FNA), non ho fatto esperimenti in overclock ma il risultato finale è eccezionale e mi ritengo estremamente soddisfatto.

Es macht, was er soll. Kühlen. Das tut er absolut. Ich liege mit meinem auf 4,2GHZ getakteten I7 selten über 40 Grad. Dabei ist der Lüfter einfach mal nicht zu hören. Sehr, sehr leise.Der Einbau war einfach und hat richtig Spaß gemacht. Schraube halt auch mal gern. Es stehen ja auch ausreichend Videos im Internet zur Verfügung, bei denen man sich den Einbau erklären lassen kann.Ansonsten: Ob der Kühler in den jeweiligen Tower passt und ob er eventuell bei vollbestücktem RAM im Weg wäre, muss doch mal jeder selbst schauen:-oKlar ist das eine ordentlicher Klotz, aber ich verstehe immer die Fragen nicht "passt der in diesen Tower" oder "kann ich den auf diesem Board montieren"...etc. Die Maße stehen dabei, jeder weiß selbst am besten was er für einen Tower hat, welches Mainboard drin ist und wie der Platz um den Prozessor aussieht. Man muss sich schonmal ein wenig mit der eigenen Hardware beschäftigen!

Der Thermalright ist kein Macho, das ist ein Biest!! beim auspacken hab ich mir gedacht, Oh Gott, der passt niemals ins Gehäuse... doch das tut er...Die einbauanleitung die mitgeliefert wird ist nötig für die montage ds man ja das ganze Material für alle möglich Varianten bekommt. Wer damit nicht klarkommt, kann ja auf Youtube nachforschen- dort ist alles genau beschrieben... Allerdings ist der Lüfter am gerät so groß das er auf jeden fall einen steckplatz für den Ram Überdeckt, was aber auch kein problem sein sollte wenn man 4 steckplätze zur verfügung hat.Ich hab den Kühler auf das Mainboard ASUS M5A99X Evo R2.0 verbaut wo er mir einen CPU von AMD FX-8350 schön kühl hält...Den CPU hab ich übertaktet, außerdem hab ich eine umgebungstemperatur von ca. 27°C (lebe in der dom. rep.) und trotzdem schafft es der kühler bei voller last eine temperatur zwischen 30° und 40° Celsius zu halten... es sind aber auch 7 durchzugslüfter verbaut...Außerdem wird ein Magnetischer Schraubendreher mitgeliefert der sehr hochwertig und praktisch ist da man damit überall problemlos hinkommt und er auch für die meisten Schrauben im PC passt...Also auf jeden Fall ein klares muss für alle die einen leisen und starken kühler benötigen!!!!!
