ASUS BW-16D1HT (Black) - Ultra-Fast 16X Blu-ray Burner with M-DISC Support for Lifetime Data Backup

Used for data back up for long-term storage and to read data stored years ago. It is doing a good job. Quiet when writing data at speeds of 6x and 12x. Can get noisy reading data at 24x - not a problem for me, but may become an issue for others. Front to back length is reduced compared to earlier Pioneer and LG drives. I expect this to have reduced durability compared to those, which were substantially heavier as well. November 2025 update: The Writer still works perfectly, reading CDs written in 1997, DVDs from 2001 onwards and Blu Ray discs of 25 and 50 GB, both BD-R as well as BD-RE, capacity written 2009 onwards.

Not much use till now. But I burn two or three dvds, working good. Packing is original and only a CD of softwares and drivers come with it....useful and nice product ...

I wanted a BluRay Burner so that I could watch BluRay movies on my HTPC. I was disappointed to know that VLC doesn't play such movies. I did try some of the online solutions, but none of them worked. The software that came with the package was a lite version and not the pro version, hence the one less star. The drive performs very well.

Nice product, easy to handle, burn blueray discs like charm, low noise while handling media.

I got struck with an issue of the disc not found for many cases. Since the product was on warranty, I tried reaching the Asus service for storage, dialled many centres and also sent email nobody responded. After somedays, Asus guy called me and said that i can go to a service centre in Chetpet. Asus team also approved the warranty via the email and they suggested me to reach the Chetpet service centre with the bill and the approved email copy. However, in the service centre, they said that they need another approval as its been purchased via Amazon. It took almost 15 days for them to approve the warranty. Finally they said that they are okay to replace the product that i purchased. However, they also highlighted that no warranty or guarantee applies if the newly replaced product didnt work. I just tried to understand the logic on how they are saying, is it not valid atleast for 6 months? What will a customer do if again a product got into an issue? its blu ray writer and it costs around 11k in market. I didnt see any reasonable justification from them. However, the customer service at Asus Chetpet team are so dumbo and rude that they laughed and said that this is the way they handle the things. Even the technical service team guys at Chetpet team, was pathetic enough to understand the question too. My suggestion is dont buy any asus products as well as dont rely on these kind of service centres. They treat people pathetically without any common sense.

Those who are looking for support to rip a UHD/4K BlueRay Disk this is the one you should go for. There is lower version of firmware which is available in the net which can be downgraded to rip UHD movies.

This is my second purchase of ASUS BW-16D1HT device in my life (and I even have one, also great LG WH16NS60 device), and I do not have any complaints with both of those devices at all!!! Now, for the ASUS BW-16D1HT device in particular, it is officially by ASUS corp. fully Microsoft Windows 10 and Microsoft Windows 11 compatible device and do not require any additional driver installations or any similar, so just install it in your Desktop computer or in your 5.25" external case, and go. Yes, you need to additionally get/purchase a really good and versatile CD/DVD/Blu-Ray/ Millenniata (M-DISC) burning software here, like for e.g. Ahead Nero 2025, but this is quite logical here... I personally use this ASUS BW-16D1HT device for Backup purpose and to watch some bought Blu-ray discs in my house... Very reliable, good, quality product from ASUS corp. which is not a bulk product here at all - I get it from Amazon.com.be in its original ASUS box, and completely sealed!!! Inside this original box was even 4 screwdrivers to attach it in your computer case in an empty 5.25'' bay here, or in external 5.25" case. You will also get in this original box one ASUS Blu-ray optical media with optional software on it for your installations if you want: ASUS E-Green v1.01.55 (2017) software which automatically optimizes this ASUS device power consumption and display detailed information on power saved and CO2 reduced using this ASUS device. On this ASUS Blu-ray optical media you will also find: Cyberlink Power2go v8 (2018) software which is for burning CD/DVD/BD disks..., and also Cyberlink Powerbackup v12 (2018) software for full backup of your devices, and Ahead Nero BackItUp v2017 (2017) software for full backup of your devices. Got it from Amazon Resale for less than 120AED! At first I was skeptical due to the low price. I even recorded the unboxing in case the item inside the box was beaten up, or if the drive inside the box was a different model. Lo and behold it's actually an Asus BW-16D1HT. Still doubtful, I connected it to my PC. Had some issues with the cable/connector. Seemed to be that some plastic bit was blocking the SATA power connector. Pushed it a little bit, turned on the PC and Windows 11 sees the bluray drive. I don't have a UHD bluray disc nor M-disc, so I cannot comment if those work. It is a bit noisy though. CD: Works DVD: not yet checked Bluray: Works UHD Bluray: unknown M-Disc: not checked

This is a great drive. Very fast. I already have similar slim Blu-ray burners but I had heard that these bigger, full size drives may soon be going to way of the Dodo bird as more manufacturers are stopping making them so I wanted to pick one up to make sure I had one before that happened. I'm glad I did. It performs significantly faster than even the best slim one (Pioneer) that I have for everything (reading/writing data CDs/DVDs, music CDs, etc.). I wound up throwing it into an external USB 3 enclosure and couldn't be happier.
