First impressions, this OBD2 scanner looked like a good device. IT appears to have all the right tests and the ability to clear errors and service requirements like oil changes. Last time I took my car to a garage for a service, they never cleared the service due, and the oil change kept coming up. I have misgivings about releasing unnecessary data with many apps that are available. The app that comes with this OBD2 was also quite "Permission hungry" which worries me when I had to open an account and accept data sharing that seemed a bit unnecessary. I also had some issues when connecting the app to my phone via Bluetooth. Not sure whey this would have been the case, as other apps connect without a problem. MY main gripe is that on Registration have a year of operations that come with the app, but after that, there's a subscription that requires payment. Having used other OBD devices before, this is the first one that made me jump through this many hoops to do a test on my vehicle. Eventually I was able to do a scan, although I also had to download a file for my specific vehicle type, again another task before any results. I finally managed to get some readings and they were comprehensive and helpful, and yes, I can clear data to do with service requirements as well as test the engine for things like emissions, battery and engine performance. Some items are buried deep in menus which again was not helpful Overall, this device is a mixed bag of good features and annoying requirements. I have other OBD2 tests devices that do the same thing, without so many permissions, subscription and that large download file. IF you're happy to trust this app and device, and it does look new, then go ahead, it offers a lot.

As someone who enjoys working on my own car, I’ve used a fair share of OBD2 scanners over the years - and I’ve also had good experiences with GOOLOO products in general. They tend to strike a nice balance between build quality and price, so I went into this expecting something similar from the DEEPSCAN DS200. Out of the box, it absolutely delivers on build quality. The dongle feels robust, well-made, and durable - definitely something that should stand the test of time. It gives a strong first impression and feels more premium than many of the cheaper, generic alternatives out there. Unfortunately, things start to get more complicated once you actually try to use it. Setup is, bluntly, a bit of a hassle. Unlike many plug-and-play OBD2 dongles that work with a range of third-party apps, this one locks you into using the “Deepscan OBD2 Scanner” app. That wouldn’t necessarily be a problem—except the app itself feels underdeveloped. Seeing such a low download count on the Play Store immediately raised some concerns for me. It gets more frustrating from there. You’re required to create an account before you can even use the device, with no option to skip this step. On top of that, the terms and conditions are quite broad in terms of data collection, which may be a sticking point if you’re privacy-conscious. One of the biggest surprises, and not a pleasant one, is the subscription model. After activation, you get 12 months of access to the more advanced diagnostic features. After that, you’re looking at roughly $50 per year or $10 per month to continue using those functions. While this kind of pricing isn’t unusual for professional-grade automotive tools, it’s not something clearly highlighted upfront, and that lack of transparency feels a bit misleading. The only positive is that not everything is locked behind a paywall. The core OBD2 functions, like reading and clearing fault codes, are available for free for the lifetime of the device, which is important and appreciated. And when it comes to actual performance, the DS200 does a solid job. It connects to a wide range of vehicles (I tested it on a Lexus CT 200h), and the level of detail available seems quite good. Fault scanning is noticeably faster than on my previous scanner, which is a definite plus. There’s also a strong feature set here: live data monitoring, graphing, data export, and more. For anyone who likes to dig deeper into vehicle diagnostics, there’s plenty to explore. However, the overall experience is slightly undermined by usability quirks. The app often reconnects to the vehicle when switching between different sections, which slows things down and can get annoying over time. In the end, this is a capable and well-built diagnostic tool that performs well where it counts, but it’s held back by its software ecosystem. The forced app usage, mandatory account creation, and ongoing subscription costs take away from what could have been a straightforward, user-friendly experience. If you’re okay with the app and the idea of paying for extended features down the line, there’s a lot to like here. But if you prefer a simpler, more open solution without subscriptions or data concerns, you might want to look at alternatives.

Worse item bought just a waste of time

I have a Land Rover that is particularly resistant to most OBD scanners. No problem with the DS200. Read and clear faults and calibrate new hardware. It is very simple to use, but does not store vehicles so have to scan each time - it does add a bit of time. Unlike my AP2000, this can be used freely with more than one car brand, making it a very good buy. I was able to download and read my wifes MINI codes, as well as reset the service light which had been forgotten by the garage.

I have mixed feelings about this. I got this as I was fed up of the garage I go to trying to find faults with my car that I swear weren't there. Connecting it to my phone was a bit of a pain. Took several attempts and fiddling but I managed to get it done. But then came the app. It's not very user friendly and there are no clear instructions. But I'm no technophobe and between me and my other half we figured it out. Luckily, my car was a free option - it seems it wants you to pay for certain cars. I think the age of mine made it free, but again, it's unclear. It also makes you register, agree to data sharing and basically makes the registration process very difficult. Also, if you're having to put reg and VC5 info (like car VIN) into it, and then share that data, where is it going? Luckily, mine is an old car that I'll be getting rid of shortly, so I'm not too worried, but still Diagnostics wise, this is fantastic! Definitely ruled out some of the "repairs" my garage wanted to do. And also highlighted a faulty sensor which I've been complaining about but weirdly "isn't a problem". It's made me search for another garage, even though it's massively inconvenient to get to a different one due to my location. But it's given me peace of mine that my car isn't actually a faulty mess. Would I recommend this? Probably not. I don't have experience of other tools like this, so I can't comment on how easy it is vs them, but just from the data gathering and sharing alone, I wouldn't in good conscience say buy this.

GOOLOO DS200 Deepscan – Review This OBD scanner is compact, so easy to carry around, and offers some great features for diagnostics. This scanner allows you to monitor performance stats along with the usual clearing codes, etc. The cars have lots of sensors and are very complex & advanced, which is a great tool to have. The smartphone app works well with an easy-to-use interface and no crashes or glitches during my few times using it. For £69.99, at the time of review, this scanner offers a compact design & a good feature set. I’d recommend this to any person who is DIY inclined at diagnosing their car. Would recommend it. 5 stars.
