Notes for Cooking an EPIC Taste
The 3-steps listed on the package are inadequate and without complete can and will lead to user error that results in greatly different outcomes/tastes that will affect your opinion on the quality. Therefore, I made this fully comprehensive and super-long guide for How-to make EPIC BUTTER NOODELS... Ingredients: 1. Use Real Butter: No Exceptions. Make sure to use a butter you like... in general a harder sweet cream style versus a super soft one results in best overall taste. 2. Cook with filtered/bottled water. Due to carbon-based filters (such as PUR) not being able to filter out everything, including commonly added Fluoride, using pure-sourced bottled water will give best taste. In other words... if you use unfiltered tap water, and you don't like the taste of it, you won't like the outcome from these water-intensive noodles. Cooking Utensils: 1. There are microwave instructions... Don't use them. 2. Use some sort of small-medium sized pot for cooking. Don't cook single packages in super tall pots or super wide pots else the outcome may alter the taste. 3. Use a flat Spoon-like device not only to stir the mixture but also to test it during cooking. 4. A liquid measuring device is needed... as if you put too little water or too much the outcome will be undesirable. 5. Must have a fully covering lid to "finish" the taste of the noodles at the end and to control the boiling/water dissipation (if you use less then 2 cups/water). Cooking Instructions: Preparation; 1. The package says 2 cups of water but you can do 1 3/4 if you are skilled with short-term covering of the pot to conserve water. Else using the advised amount is fine... do not ever go above 2 cups though. 2. 1 Tablespoon (TBS) of butter? HA Ha ha.... Use no less then 1.5 TBS for taste. 1.5 is good balance between taste and is not over-buttering for most users. 3. Put water in first and butter in later as it heats up a bit. If you put in both at the same time, make sure to stir the melting butter around to ensure no overcooking or other issues. Cooking; 1. Heat water to a "boil". You want it to bubble around a bit but not powerful enough that water goes flying outside/edges of the pot. You are aiming for a rate that cooks it in 8-10 min range so DONT COOK faster then that speed. 2. Put in the mixture at this time; make sure to stir it around until evenly distributed. 3. Noodles don't have to be continuously stirred... however you want to make sure that: 1. Noodles don't stick to edges at any point in time and 2. The sauce color mixture is constant throughout. 4. You will see different shades of "white/yellow" with the more yellow parts the butter-intensive areas. In the first few minutes, the butter likes to "clump together" due to emulsification issues. Make sure to stir a few times to distribute the mixture as evenly as possible... granted you won't be able to get it everywhere. The "green spices" you see floating around also should be managed as well as the spacing of the noodles themselves. "The Gold Medal" of Cooking: The end of the cooking process is the critical moment to resulting taste. As you get close to the end, the noodles go from tiny things, to watery bigger things, to thicker "tender" pieces. Knowing when to stop heating the mixture is the same as "Going for the Gold". To do this requires a few strategies... although will take you time to master; 1. When the noodles get heavy and provide resistance upon stirring (more tender), they need to be stirred almost constantly. This occurs approximately 6-8 minutes into cooking. Failure to do so will result in sticking to edges, overheating, and having a "burned taste". 2. The "done-ness" of the noodles is dependent upon how much remaining water there is left. Spread out the mixture evenly and use spoon to pick up the noodles and slowly turn it over to let it drip. If you get a constant stream of water, you need to cook more. If you get no water dripping, you cooked too long. Target for 1- 2 drops per second and repeat the test for accuracy. 3. Make sure the noodles are big and thick... but also to ensure that the "drip test" in (2) indicates there is proper doneness. The noodles depending on butter used will have a maximum size to them. If you use 0 butter, for example, they will be big and watery... if you use ton of butter they will be smaller and saucier. Trying to describe this is very hard... in general once you hit peak size you cannot cook any bigger and excessive heat duration will affect taste. Post Heat: 1. Once you have determined they are "done"... remove from heat immediately and place onto a room-temp surface. Stir until boiling stops then cover. The package indicated 2 min wait time but for maximum "done-ness" wait at least 5 min. If you do not intend to eat them right away, you can reapply a low heat after 2 min. 2. Serve as desired... with low heat they can last a while however after 20-min or so when most of the remaining water has evaporated some damage in taste/texture may apply. Regarding Multi-Package Cooking: If you cook more then one pack at a time... most important thing to remember is you don't need so much water per unit. If you cook 2 packages... use 3.5-3.75 cups water vs. 4 cups. Using too much water will not help... and will result in longer cooking times and potential quality issues. There... a massively long guide to cook something most people don't even think twice about. If you can understand and follow these instructions your Butter Noodle will be the MOST EPIC TASTE... better then most stuff found at "casual restaurants". If you like to add-in items (like shrimp) to your pasta you can do so once you figure this out. Enjoy your EPIC Knorr taste!
