Does this come with some sort of program to get started or will I need to purchase software for my computer? I'm completely new to this idea.

The software is on their site. https://www.xp-pen.com/download/index/id/65.html Just find your operating system here and download the appropriate one. Since this is the Artist 12, it should be the fifth one down, but it's clearly labeled so it's not like you'll have any trouble spotting it! If you meant a program to draw in, you'll have to find one on your own. I believe GIMP and Fire Alpaca are both completely free if you're on a budget. There's Manga/Clip Studio, Paint Tool Sai, and Photoshop for ones you can purchase, as well, and probably more that I'm not thinking of.
