STANLEY FATMAX Folding Retractable Blade Utility Knife with 3 Blades, 0-10-825

I recently used the STANLEY FATMAX Retractable Folding Utility Knife to fit a new carpet, and I couldn’t be more pleased with its performance. This knife is incredibly sturdy, made from metal, which gives it a solid, durable feel in hand. It cut through thick carpet with ease. You can tell it's built to last and handle demanding jobs. One of my favorite features is that it folds up into a compact size, making it easy to carry around in my pocket. The folding mechanism works smoothly, and once closed, it’s safe and secure. I bought this knife to try out and to compare with the ubiquitous 99E I have been using for years. First impressions are that it’s a very good, easy to use product. Had some trouble getting the packaging card off as it was weaved inside the workings, but there is a narrow, perforated section on it hiding just inside where it comes out the slider adjust slot; tear it there then pull the packaging out the rest of the knife and you’re good to go. It has the familiar locking slider for extending and retracting the blade. The real advantage with this knife is the ability to swap the blade round and even to replace it without having to unscrew and dismantle the knife body. Pressing the small red button just behind the blade slot releases the blade so it can be pulled out the slot. Refitting a blade can be a bit fiddly though, the red button has to be pressed again to re insert a blade. Beneath the rubberized lid there is a clasp that can hold 3 extra blades, the lid hinges open via a small red plastic catch underneath. The whole knife can be folded closed to reduce its footprint by squeezing a metal catch against the inner wall of the handle then hinging it closed. One criticism I have is there is no hole to thread a lanyard through at the end, but it does come with a pocket clip on the handle. I mainly use a “Stanley Knife” for preparing cable terminations, especially SWA cables for new installs. Using this knife for a couple of days has convinced me this is an ideal tool for the job, being slightly less heavy, easily as strong as the 99E and unlikely to break or fail anytime soon.

Nice little Stanley knife bought to replace my vintage knife of 40 years. Stanley are a good brand as my last knife is testament to that fact. Although it still works it now belongs in a museum. Let's hope this posh new folding knife lives up to the Stanley reputation. Folds to half the size and does hold a few spare blades which are easy to replace. It's light and good value for the price. Even used it to cut new fire bricks for the wood burner so quite tough too. Remember buy cheap buy twice. Also go with a traditional make you get what you pay for.

Another excellent product but it could do with a QR code to scan and follow a simple video of how to install the blades, i had to watch a yt video after nearly slicing fingers off. On the positives, its solid, folds easily by a slight press of the metal tab inside of housing and stores away into a small size which is handing. Stanley just need to sort out that video and it would be a much better customer service experience.

Great knife - comfortable to use, fits neatly in pocket and great in the tool box

I’ve been using Stanley tools for many years, and this FATMAX Folding Retractable Blade Utility Knife is no exception. I’ve had several of this exact model over the years, and each one has been durable, comfortable to use, and reliable. The retractable blade is smooth and easy to control, and replacement blades are simple to fit. Very happy with this knife highly recommended for anyone needing a dependable utility tool.

I've never known an item that's supposedly so simple to use be so infuriating. I can't even remove it from it's packaging and gave up after 20 minutes. Even after I searched up a video on how to remove the blade it wouldn't come out cos the part where the slider is located is also stuck as the packaging is wrapped around the internal mechanism which I can't get to. Because the packaging prevents the slider from moving back I can't close it to send it back so it's gonna have to go back as it is. I'm not prepared to take this thing apart with screwdriver or alan key as that would surely void any warranty and I don't know if I'll break it in the process. To open it requires a special star shaped key which I don't have and without taking it all apart I can't release it from the hard plastic packaging (see photo). Going by other reviews even if you manage to get through the impossible packaging nightmare the thing still doesn't work very well and bits of the plastic end up jammed inside preventing it from working properly. The spare blades are secured in place by tough hard plastic shrink wrap which can't be undone without (guess what?...) a Stanley knife, which risks scratching the paint on the knife. Absolute joke! Will go back to using my old one that is just one screw to change the blades. This doesn't deserve to have the Stanley trademark on it. Whoever designed this needs sacking and take up a job designing puzzle boxes. This thing is not fit for purpose. Returned today for a full refund. Item is defective as it can't be removed from the packaging without compromising my warranty or possibly damaging the product.

Easy to use quality folding blade, great on the work site and very safe with the retractable blade. Strong and solid, another Stanley hand tools which is hard to beat.
