Do these come with cartridge to tell you when filter must be changed because it is used up?

They do not come with the paper cartridge. I ordered the additional cartridges but they did not work like the original. I simply make a note when to change the filter. I have it in my mud room with 2 dogs so I change it every 2 months.

Can these be cut to size?

No. These contain carbon inside. Cutting them would create a mess and render the filter unusable.

Does the grey or black face out

There should be a notch in a corner of the filter and you’ll see a notch inside your machine. They should match up. If not, then the grey side goes in and black side out. I know I ordered some filters that came without a notch and I had to figure it out. I hope that helps.

do these filters come with a filter replacement indicator?

The indicator should be on your machine if you have one. These are just filters. I keep an eye on mine and when they look full I change them. You should be able to see the filter through the intake openings.
