great fun, great product
My brother in law bought us one of these. It did bite the dust eventually, but I sure feel like I got his money out of it :) I just bought 2 more of these because they are fantastic for running my dogs at night. No more lost balls! Real handy in the snow! I would loose balls left and right when they go plop in the snow while my Labrador wasn't paying attention, but now it makes a glowing halo in the snow which is hard to miss... even for my goofy dog.CONNS:1) I will admit that replacing batteries is a challenge. but I use a small thin flat-head screwdriver to assist + some grunting and cursing, seems to work better that way. Remember: this ball stands up to slobbery dogs and tough chewers... you can't expect something that resilient to be easy to open.2) Battery life is OK, but that’s it. Once they die you're back to problem number one.3) Smaller than a "large" size chuck-it ball, but I still use the launcher with this ball anyway.4) LED circuit board thing will fatigue, rust and require a little coaxing at times when changing batteries, and will eventually die.5) Be sure to leave the ball to air-dry before you put the LED circuit back in (when changing the batteries), otherwise you'll trap moisture inside the ball and kill the LED thing that much quicker. I know, I learned the hard way.PROS:1) I don't loose it!2) I can buy batteries real cheap in bulk (on Amazon)3) LED circuit thing is the same (or almost the same) as the one they use in the blinking dog tags by nite-ize so you can grab one of those for a replacement... or change of colour.4) Lets me run the dogs before bed time (so we all get to sleep).5) Goes REAL far when using a chuck-it (BTW, if you don't have a chuck-it, you're missing out).6) Resilient as heck. I throw this ball at least 35' in the air and it comes crashing/ bouncing down on hard frozen ground. I routinely miss and hit a tree much harder than I would like, but the ball puts up with it.Bottom Line: I don't expect them to last forever, but I'm pleased and my dogs are pleased. Fair price for a good product. Pick one up, your dog will love it :)**update** bought another ball since I lost my last ball (not the ball's fault) and this one malfunctions. I e-mailed nite-ize and the response is quick and helpful. They do stand behind their product for at least 2 years, so they want to send me spare parts to remedy the situation. I'm very happy with their customer service and feel confident when buying their products.

Text from niece: "Merle LOVES her glow in the dark ball. And says THANK YOU !!!!!"
The media could not be loaded. I bought this for my niece's dog; she and her husband just moved into a home with a fenced yard, allowing them more freedom to send Merley-girl safely scampering after a ball at night. One night their first week in the home I received excited texts about how much Merle loved the ball, and then this video (the most amazing part of which is that they apparently have finally taught Merle to DROP something on command!) Sorry you can't see Merle - she's a cutie. But this is a late night video and all you see is the glowing green ball as it bounces across the yard and then as Merle runs back with it (and also a couple of headlights at one point).NOTE: I tested the ball when I got it, checked on changing batteries etc. Battery changing might be a tad challenging (digging out the plug section of the ball under which the switch is located) but shouldn't happen too often. The battery and switch aren't anywhere near the surface: they are buried near the center of the ball, so you have a good sized plug-type section of the ball to remove. But I must say I was impressed that the switch and battery ARE buried so deep: no dog or young child is likely to EVER get to the small hazardous pieces. Also, this strikes me as one TOUGH ball. Even if you decide never to bother to replace the battery once it burns out, you've still got yourself a great tennis-ball sized ball that seems practically indestructible. The problem I did have was simply turning the dang thing on and off; the switch is buried so deep that no matter how hard I pushed I couldn't get it to turn on. I gave up and ordered a lighted Frisbee as well. Anyway, it turns out the problem wasn't just arthritic hands: my niece and her husband had problems as well but simply had the sense to jam the ball against another surface (the ground, the house, etc) to compress it enough for the light to go on or off. I feel like a ditz that I didn't think to just step on the thing!Enjoy! And Good Girl, Merle, Good Girl!!

Third time's a charm
I was so excited when I first found this product. I hurried to buy it so I could play with the dog at night when I got home late. The ball also fit perfectly into the "Chuck It" thrower that we have so I can throw it a bit further. My dogs were elated to play at night time, though our German Shepherd can see so much better than our Labradoodle that the Labradoodle never seems to get the ball, but I digress...This is the third one of these that I have purchased. The first one worked great. We used it until the battery went dead. Then, however, replacing the batteries was a hassle, and it didn't work quite as well thereafter because it wouldn't stay lit. The dogs would grab the ball in their mouths, and trigger the on off switch causing the light to turn off. I decided to buy a second one, this time, one of the color changing balls. The battery didn't last long at all on that one, but at least it worked for a bit until it started staying light until later at night. So I am now on my third one, and it is working as well as the first one did. No problems turning it off and on. No problems with the dogs accidentally turning it off. No turning off because I threw it too hard. It works great. Thanks for helping me exercise the dogs at night!
