Can be complicated to use. Has lots of information. Has been useful.

I have not studied the iChing but have used it for many years. I used the Wilhelm book at first and understood some of the hexagram lines and some others not as well. Then I switched to the iChing Workbook by R L Wing, which was much more usable for me. I was happy with that and I actually only got this one because I was looking for an iChing on kindle. I couldn't be more pleased. I have found it even more accessible. I have no idea what is more historically accurate. I do find that it works for me... quite often with stunning results.

The book is new and very good. a useful tool for insight into any question or problem. Answers are there for reflection and decisions relating to any questions. But what is the question? That requires some amount of work on your brain even to define a question. Once you do the i ching can help provide a way to resolve the question, and answers though reflective are dead on accurate. Be careful what you ask, this is not a wish book or some easy road. Thinking is required. Otherwise go watch some TV commercials and rest your brain.

I put in a rating and mistakenly hit the 4 star dot. Could not re-enter as 5 star but the book is a 5 star. Not only is it easy to read it gives you ways to do the I Ching without buying expensive cards or coins. It makes the I Ching very understandable with a great historical account of the practice dating back thousands of years. If you're like me and want the fast, understandable track I highly recommend this book.

Though this is called I-Ching for Beginners, i am a fairly experienced practitioner and I still love it. What sets this volume apart are the questions included at the end of every hexagram. I have often counselled people in I-Ching, and the hexagrams can be SO poetic and metaphorical, it can be difficult to apply them to one's own life. With McElroy's straightforward questions, anyone can use the I-Ching as a jumping off point for their own growth and self-inquiry.

I think Mark McElroy did a Great Job in his interpretation of each of the Hexagrams!I ask the Oracle on a regular basis, a few times a week, for different situations, clients, and plans and I keep coming back to check Mark's interpretations more than reading the other traditional interpretations. It's easy to understand and transfer over to any situation that it may be an answer for.

Modern writing, fairly easy to read and utilize. I knew this was a book to help in divining the future but was hoping it would contain some kind, humble Asian wisdom. Basically, it IS a type of tarot for predicting what you should do in any given situation/day. Each situation is graded in 6 or so lines of what to do, ranging from passive inaction to proactive decision/movement. Ugh. It is literally tossing dice to find out what to do which I don't take any stock in. At all. I didn't find any extraordinary wisdom here and have been served better by buying Zen desk calendars and pondering each day's meaning.

Mark McElroy, in my opinion, did an excellent job explaining the 'ancient oracle' mentality. It's the term 'oracle' that sticks in my throat. Oracle? My goodness, just get yourself a pair of dice and keep throwing them until the exact number desired surfaces.I Ching, again in my opinion, is nothing more than a children's game made as complicated as possible to pass for some zenmaster's revelation.I was not disappointed in Mark McElroy's explanation. I was disappointed to learn that adults actually rate this foolishness seriously.

Found this book quite difficult to understand. Eventually I done a short reading but find it too confusing. Also gives lot of warnings to the situation that has been predicted.
