Minka Lavery 8102-A138 Kirkham Modern Outdoor Dark Sky Exterior Wall Lantern, 1-Light, 60 Watts, Bronze (11"W x 7"H)

My wife found the fixture on the manufactures web site and loved the look so I found it on Amazon and made the purchase. I really wish I had read the reviews before purchasing and having them installed on our new patio trellis. They look nice but are way to shallow. A standard bulb hangs way below the bottom which somewhat defeats the night sky “feature”. Even with the smallest A26 bulb I could find as someone suggested in another review, it is visible when looking from the side.The picture of the fixture was taken about 15’ feet away and the bottom of the bulb is visible. At night when the light is on, that’s all you notice. It is the smaller of the two bulbs shown in the second picture, the larger is a standard size A26 bulb.They look nice but are super lightweight because the material is so thin. A bit expensive for what you get in my opinion. We will eventually replace once we have time and find one my wife likes that is deep enough to hide the bulb.

I really like the design and look of this fixture - the color, the texture, the design. However, it's very shallow and wide and in my attached pic the light bulb in it is a smallish bulb, not a large one. You can imagine that at night when it's on all you see is a bare light bulb hanging there. In addition, the beauty of the fixture isn't really visible even in the day because you can't see it from above, only from below. I think if the design were modified so it was deeper and encompassed the size of a light bulb it would be a better choice. But as you approach the door at night your main view is an exposed light bulb. I don't mean to be overly critical - as I said when I opened the package I was very pleased with the design - but for me it's not very pleasing as an installed fixture.

Nicely made, easy to install, but, way overpriced for what you get. As an electrician I install what my customer wants, but, this is a small light for a lot of money, and, can only use low wattage bulbs. Even great LED bulbs with high lumens will have a hard time making this worth the price.

We are very happy with the Minka Lavery 11" Kirkham Dark Sky fixture, which we have installed above a door on our deck, controlled by an Intermatic ST01A In-Wall Timer with Astronomic Feature. Our selection process came down to a decision to go with dark sky, and because we could not find that with a photocell, we opted for the Intermatic timer (the only one that is consistently reported to work with LED bulbs).After considerable research, we chose the LED version of this beautiful fixture based on the color of the light, which is pretty warm (2700K), the darkness of the inner surface of the shade (we ruled out white, which might be too bright), the energy efficiency, and the fact that the LED bulb attracts fewer bugs than a CFL or incandescent bulb would in this location above a door. The prior fixture was located a few feet to the right of the door, and many bugs were attracted to CFL and incandescent bulbs there in the past. Since we were relocating the light to be above the door, it was important that the new fixture be less attractive to bugs. We researched and found side-by-side comparisons of LED versus CFL on YouTube, and the LED was less attractive to bugs. Now that the light is in place, we find that all of our expectations have been met, and specifically we have reduced the number of bugs flying around the light in this location to near zero.This fixture is substantial yet lightweight, wet rated, and since it's aluminum, we will not have the rust issues that are so common now. It's a handsome thing, and we are very pleased with this purchase.

I liked the look of these lamps so I changed out all of my exterior lamps to either the 8.5" or 11" models. They look great and I like the Dark Sky rating because the lights shine on the floor instead of on the house and in the neighbor's eyes. On some of the lamps that were mounted higher on the house we used shorter E26 flood lights instead of Edison lights because the Edison lights stick out slightly below the lamp shade. My only criticism is that it is pretty expensive for a relatively simple lamp. I guess the nice styling is what we're paying for.

I like the product but when I use a standard bulb, I can still see the bottom of the bulb, it keeps most of the light from shining upwards but the hood covering the light should be longer to extend downward another 2" IMHO

The fixture is a little small but can take up to a 60 watt bulb. As this is a dark sky fixture, I used a R14 LED bulb, E26 base, 40 watt equivalent. It is only 2" long so you don't see the bulb. Works great

I have owned 7 of these fixtures over 8 years now and I will now have to change them out (I am repainting the whole house) because rust is present, to some degree or other, on all 7 of them. This house in near the ocean though and gets a lot of moisture.But I still love how the dark sky look accents the house and puts the light where belongs.I have to also note the kind of bulb is also very important. I used the PAR20 Dimmable LED Bulb, 7W Flood Light Bulbs. The bulb itself is small & directs the light downward. It's important that the bulb doesn't protrude.Anyway, I am purchasing them again to replace the existing ones but this time I will spray them with a clear UV spray before installing.
