Asterix at the Olympic Games: Album #12 (The Adventures of Asterix)

The Asterix books are all funny, and clever in their use of language. They are for a wide range of ages. My daughter has been enjoying reading them since she was eight years old, and I still love them.

This is another solid entry in the Asterix series. Asterix and Obelix, and all the men of the village, head to Greece to compete in the Olympic games -- as Romans! The problem is, they're not allowed to use their magic potion. Typical Asterix zaniness and terrible puns.

This work, serialized to coincide with the 1968 Mexico City games, satirizes the use of performance-enhancing drugs as well as makes numerous historical allusions to ancient Greece and Greek mythology. For this reason it is both amusing and educational. However as a book deliberately created to exploit a particular event, it is not really as hilarious as some of the other works.

アステリックスは、学生時代に何度か読んだ事がありまして、可愛らしい絵柄と軽快なセリフ等が印象に残ってましたが、また再び読みたくなった＆手元に置きたくなったので、まずはこの作品を購入しました。内容（自分なりに解釈した上で＾＾；）はと言いますと・・・・・、アステリックス達の住むガリアの小さな村を包囲するローマキャンプ所属のアスリートが、村の近くをランニング中、アステリックス達と出会い、ガリアのマジックポーションの力を見せ付けられてしまう　　　　　　　　　↓そのアスリートさんのコーチ（？）は、近日中に開催されるアテネでのオリンピックで、「勝利のパルム（いわば金メダル）」が欲しい＆カエサルに献上したいと思ってるので、ガリアの村に赴いて、村長に村から選手を出さないか？と、言いかける。・・・・・・が、それは単なる提案ではなく、本当にローマ側が欲しいのは「ガリアのマジックポーション」。　　　　　　　　　↓いざガリアの人たちがアテネに赴くも、オリンピックの運営の人から告げられたのは、「マジックポーション使用禁止」。・・・所謂「ドーピング禁止」。だが、代表選手となったアステリックスは懸命に戦うも・・・・・　　　　　　　　　↓その裏側では、選手村の食事内容が、主催国のギリシャや諸外国よりも明らかにローマ選手の方が豪華だったり・・・・と、ローマのスポーツマンシップを無視した「パルム獲得」への黒い企みが明らかに・・・・　　　　　　　　　↓しかし、ガリアの村のドルイドはそれに気付いていたのか、マジックポーションに「ある仕掛け」を施し、更にドルイドとアステリックスは、ローマ選手団の居るまん前で、噂話を装いワザと相手に聞こえるように、マジックポーションの場所を言って、欺く　　　さて・・・・・・そのオチは・・・・・・・・・・・・流れだけ見れば、今の児童向けギャグ漫画そのものですが、そこはアステリックス。随所に歴史的背景などが織り込まれており、特にガリア人であるアステリックスが、「ＷＥ　ＡＲＥ　ＲＯＭＡＮＳ！」と叫ぶ所や、選手団を運ぶ馬車に「ＧＡＬＬＯ−ＲＯＭＡＮ　ＴＥＡＭ」と書かれている辺りで、すでにガリアがローマの支配下であると言うのを表している所や、アテネでの徒競走のシーンでの、トラックの周りが現在の左回りでなく、古代オリンピックでの右回りであると言う所など・・・・・・古代ローマなどに興味のある大人でも楽しく読めると思います。

Die Bände "zum Erlernen und Vertiefen der englischen Originalsprache" wurden schnell geliefert. Endlich reißen die Blätter nicht mehr beim Umblättern. Man liest dies ja aus Vergnügen an der "mother language speaking", da man die deutsche oder französische aber auch italienische Ausgabe bestens kennt. Empfehlung zum Kauf dieser Bände.

懐かしさに注文してしまいました。子供のころに近所の図書館で読んでたのですが、30年近くたったいまも変わらない洋書らしい漫画、というかコミック。できればスープ作って飲むところがみたかったなぁ、と。
