So Far, So Good
I have only had this up and running for a little over a week, but it's been really cold, so it's been a great test of what it can do. It's replacing a 60,000 BTU vented heat stove that's around 65 years old. When I saw the square footage that that is listed as it's effective limit, I was a little skeptical about its ability to heat my whole house where temps often fall below zero for about three months each winter. I got the optional blower, but it's not strong enough to distribute the heat very far. It's still worthwhile, because it blows the rising column of heat far enough to place a more powerful fan just above the heater without it getting hot. That fan, aimed upwards at about 30°, redirects the rising heat wherever it's pointed, and even keeps adjoining rooms comfortable. It's gotten down to 0 and below the last two nights, and the heater hasn't been set above 2 either night. It was even a little warmer than I wanted when set at 2, so last night was about 1 1/2. One difference from the old heater that takes some getting used to is the way it regulates the heat output. The old units on/off cycles were much longer. The flame would stay on for several minutes (depending on where the thermostat was set), and then they'd go off for a while. This unit can cycle on and off a couple times in about a minute. Not that it's bad, just different; sort of like it micromanages the output. After such a short while, I obviously can't rate it durability, but it seems sturdy enough. The little assembly involved in attaching the feet was quick and easy, but I let a pro hook it up. He had to tie into the existing line and run an extension about 7 feet. Mainly, he had the stuff and experience to check for any leaks properly. I probably could have done it all pretty easily, but I feel better knowing it's all done properly by a guy I have known for a long time. If you're debating getting a primary heater and wonder if this will be enough, it will easily handle more than the 1,000 square feet listed.

Great heater for a great price - updated 2Dec2019
I bought one of these for my wood working shop (13' x 29'). It easily heats this shop and allows me to work all year long. Here are a few comments from my experience and to answer some questions that have been raised: 1) A wood shop is a high dust environment. Good dust collection is essential. Even then, I frequently use an air hose and blow off all dust on the heater (and as much inside as I can reach with the nozzle) before I start it up. Update: after 2 years of use (off and on depending on what projects I have going), it started taking longer and longer to ignite the pilot light. As they say, "when all else fails read the documentation". I read the trouble shooting section and it suggested cleaning the nozzle. I had to take off the front grill. I blew compressed air thru the side hole in the nozzle and a bunch of sawdust came out. After that, the unit started lighting up right away again. 2) My shop is very well insulated. I crack open 2 windows an inch or two to make sure there is enough oxygen for the heater. I may come back later and put in air flow vents. However, cracking the windows works just fine and I can close them when I'm not using the heater. 3) I live at 9000' elevation in Colorado. It works just fine at this elevation (see #2). 4) Follow all the recommended safety rules including locating the LP tank outside of the room. I put a 100 lb. tank on the other side of the wall from the heater in a barn. It is well insulated. I included a shutoff valve and condensation collector per code. 5) The lowest setting on the temp control (#1) sometimes keeps the shop at 68 degrees. However, at other times it heats it up to about 64 degrees. I don't know why it varies like this. I would really prefer being able to keep the temp around 65 degrees. I wonder what kicking the control all the way up to "5" would do? 6) This unit is made with very thin sheet metal. It really doesn't give you the best feel for a really well-made, quality product. However, it does what it's supposed to do and I haven't yet had any trouble with it. I used this at first with the provided feet until I was sure it would meet my needs. Then I mounted it on the wall. 7) Last, but not least, you can't beat the price!

Great job, Mr. Heater!
The focus of this review is on the high quality of Mr. Heater. A comment is shared at the end regarding the unsafe lack of suitable packaging, which is a critical concern for potential Amazon consumers of this and other such products. The heater is awesome. It produces heat for about 8,000-10,000 CUBIC feet. The controls work perfectly. The safety features are comforting. The cabinet is solid and the safety cover is well-designed and firmly integrated into the heater. The appearance says “I am efficient” and as the unit is compact, it takes up the space of an average living room chair on the floor or can be mounted on a wall safely. I’d argue having the unit on the floor makes more sense if you have the choice. It’s not a warm and cozy look like some MUCH more expensive units with their facades and fancies, but sprawling on the floor in front of this heater is still a great place for a winter’s nap! I think the feet on this heater are especially well-designed. Reflecting those of an animal’s cloven hooves, Mr. Heater will stand firmly and yet not obtrusively. They comport well with the design motif of the appliance and speak well of the design approach taken by the manufacturer. I believe that a better choice of color for the screws in the frame of the unit would be to match the cream vanilla color, but silver screws were used. This truly is the only thing about the heater with which I find fault. Unfortunately, I recommend that you DO NOT order such items from Amazon because they insist on shipping them in retail packaging and you will likely end up with a damaged unit as we did. Twice. I love just about everything else about Amazon, but this practice poses a safety hazard with such products and is super-frustrating in general.

I bought this as a source of Emergency back up heat in case my power was to ever go out or my furnace crap the bed during a -30 cold snap. I just wanted to let people know that this is a great unit, but it is not entirely clear when you buy it what exactly is needed to get it set up as a standalone unit. You need to buy at least 3 additional pieces, plus Teflon Tape if you don't have it if you want to use it as a standalone unit. Also, it was not immediately clear where you have to insert the AA battery to make the ignitor fire, but a quick peruse through the manual tells you you have to unscrew the plastic cap on the top of the unit that you press to make the ignitor fire. Just make sure you A) Read and understand and follow the instructions of the entire manual, and B) put the battery in there before you try to light this furnace, otherwise you will have a hard time getting it to fire. There is only about an inch or so of clearance under the bottom of the unit when you install the supplied plastic feet, so you have to install the 90 degree Street Elbow to avoid clearance issues with the hose / floor / feet. The 3 items I bought in addition to the heater to get it to work as a standalone unit (so you can set it up in the middle of the floor) are: Dixon SE3F3M Brass 90 degreee Street Elbow 3/8" FNPT (female) x 3/8" MNPT (Male) ASIN: B00835UIDI Mr Heater 3/8" Male NPT x 3/8" Male Flare Thread Adapter ASIN: B002QPG6AU Onlyfire Universal QCC1 Low Pressure Propane Regulator with 12 foot hose, 3/8" Female Flare Nut ASIN: B014298Q7S Additional parts bought are shown circled in Red in attached photos. Got mine assembled, and Tested, and working great with these three items, plus Teflon Tape, proper tools (Crescent Wrench, Screwdriver), and A propane tank. It works Great, good heat! I now have peace of mind in case the electricity get knocked out now during a cold snap, at least me and my plumbing wont freeze. I Disassembled the hose from the unit at the flare nut, and left the brass fittings installed in the bottom, and I just carved out a notch in the shipping styrofoam to accomodate the brass fittings, removed the plastic feet, and it is stored away in the original packaging in case I ever need it in the event of a power or gas outage or furnace failure. Fast Shipping. Well packaged, and lightweight! Amazon, pay attention and recommend the 3 parts above!

The fittings provided are awful. I stripped the fitting just fitting it with my fingers. Absolutely discard the included elbow and go pick up a brass one. Overall, the heater itself is awesome... cranks out great heat for my 20x24 workshop. Too bad they chose the poor quality fittings. Easily could be a 5 star product. I will see how it holds up before I buy a 2nd one.
