Solid and Dependable
The second Sherpa Carrier we’ve owned, both have been excellent travel carriers with sturdy construction and quality materials.

Perfect for carrying small pets when on the move
This is a well made, high quality bag, which is both stylish and practical. I use it for my dog and she finds it very comfortable. It also feels safe, as it’s quite sturdy.

Sturdy and well made.
We used this to bring our cat on board the flight when moving to Canada as it is 'guaranteed on board' with quite a few airlines. Our cat was very comfortable in it. It is easy to carry and very very sturdy and the two opening options are very helpful. This made both ours and our cats journey very comfortable. I would highly recommend this product.

Basic and good, if all you need is something for a plane ride this is probably perfect
So in an attempt to try and find one ideal soft carrier for my new kitten I have read some articles and looked at some reviews and still could not find enough info to have the feel for what would best serve my needs. My needs: A soft carrier for plane travel An everyday carrier to take the kitten/cat to the vet - ideally bike mountable A backpack for possible future adventures/long trips/hikes Wants: Ideally extendable because on the first trip coming up (to bring the kitty into the country) we will have a long layover in a city (talking about 10-12 hours of being basically homeless, so would be nice for her to have a safe space to move about a bit without being on a leash in an unknown area Comfortable to wear Easy to set up and fold Good quality weather proof design (never know when it will rain in the UK and don’t think the cat would enjoy getting soaked, so ideally the top has an optional raincover Visibility of my cat, she’s black so a whole black interior with a black mesh would not let me see her well So I have looked at over 10 different carriers and here’s my comparison. Note most have not been tried with my cat as she was not with me at the time. Sherpa Genuine Deluxe Pet Carrier - Airline Approved Pros Perfect dimensions for airline Super light No fuss No assembly needed Cons No extension No top mesh only hard cover Very small Petsfit Cat Carrier Airline Approved, Expandable Pet Carrier Two Sides Pros Actually fits the airline dimensions I need No velcro it is all just zips Expandable Nice zip only design so no extra finicky steps in setting/opening it up The mesh of the extensions is hidden behind a zipped separator (I think this may help if your pet is likely to try and chew on the mesh) Very light Cons The expansion is curved so quite small No rain cover Quite a few reviewers said the quality was poor and the zips break quickly The expansions have no direct access and need unzipping from the maincompartment to let your pet in The expansions aren’t padded DAISTERN Front Bicycle Dog Basket up to 10KG Pros -Wow, I was actually really impressed with this one Spacious for the pet Has a million little pockets and a bottle holder Every window but one has an optional cover The bike rack is sturdy and separate from the bag so doesn’t add weight Sits pretty well on the back and seems comfortable enough However the cons The mounting instructions are super unclear despite looking detailed you can’t see anything on the badly printed leaflet The bit that has to leverage around the front of the bike was too narrow for my bike It still tilts slightly forward when lifted by the top handle (less than BABEYER that is otherwise pretty similar, but more than Pecute backpack see photos) It is so big that it is a bit much for me I could not figure out how it is supposed to click onto the bike rack (maybe that’s just a me problem) Not expandable BABEYER Dog Bike Basket, Expandable Soft-Sided Bicycle Pet Carrier Backpack Pros Has basically everything I would want it to have Seems well made in terms of the craftsmanship and the feel of the material Cons Small extension, almost cosmetic but still has one not waterproof but at least has a cover over the mesh Major flaw in the balance of the backpack if picked up by the handle tips forwards a lot but even when carrying it on the back as a backpack it still tips forwards and this is slightly uncomfortable for the wearer (I have tried adjusting the straps etc) but I can imagine it would be very uncomfortable for the pet I did not try to mount it on the bike at all due to the above but it lacks the nice rack that the DAISTERN and Trixy bike bags come with that just give me a whole lot more confidence in them being secure (of note other reviewers noted that it tips forward on the bike and I have no difficulty believing that this would easily be the case) PetSafe Solvit Tagalong Folding Bike Basket Pros Padded sides and back which mean increased comfort for the pet Seems pretty well made Cons It came quite crumpled up and I could not get it to hold any shape that would look like the photos No top cover over the mesh Not the most comfortable as a backpack, esp if worn on front TRIXIE dog bike basket Pros Very sturdy Comes with a mountable bike rack (same as the DAISTERN) Has a dedicated rain cover Cons Not easy to carry if not on the bike Heavy The rain cover is completely separate so you kind of need to remember to bring it and then completely remove the mesh to attach the raincover, not to mention that it then loses its shape Ownpets Dog Bike Basket Bag Pet Carrier Pros Small and dainty compared to all the others Light No fuss Cons No padding to the sides Assembly somewhat finicky No cover over the top No closable top mesh, the string that is there is difficult to pull tight and does not close enough in my opinion (I’d say this is more suitable for a dog that is less likely to try and jump out or if you and your cat are already experienced going out and you know how she will react) I looked at the Pecute collection: Cat Carrier Airline Approved and the two sizes of Expandable carriers - the airline approved is very similar to the Sherpa but slightly bigger (and every so slightly over the limits of the airline I am taking) and requires assembly (pushing the metal frame into place) but on the other hand has a top mesh which is nice and is much cheaper so in my mind better value than Sherpa. The smaller expandible one is very much the same but has two expandable sides and comes with a collapsible bowl. The bigger one is lovely and I really like that it does not require any assembly with the metal frame but instead all you need to do is zip up the sides and you are ready to go. It also has less velcro than the smaller version, but it is heavier and bulkier and unlikely to pass with an airline. With both the extensions have no divider from the main compartment unlike the Petsfit and so may be susceptible to chewing/clawing when not expanded (I would think this would be hard to notice unless you are actively watching your pet as that mesh is not on the outside surface when closed). However they are immediately accessible to your pet and have a nice plush surface. On the smaller bag one of the extensions has a direct zipper access from the outside while on the bigger one both extensions have an access point. Of minor note is that the bigger one just holds shape better over all and when you extend it the floor of the extensions lies perfectly flat whereas with the smaller one they pucker a bit. Having gotten the smaller expandable version I really have to say that the metal frame is a bit of a nuisance as it makes the bag so sturdy that I could not fit it under the seat in front of me on the plane (it was like literally 3 mm too tall, I would have probably been able to fit the bag sideways but as there were blankets inside due to the time of the year and the outside temperature I could not easily turn the bag without opening it, which you aren’t allowed to do in the plane). Also when I tried to reassemble the bag the long strap got around the bag as I was trying to push the metal frame into place and it took me about 15 minutes to figure out why I was not able to push it into place fully, I did not enjoy this stress on the trip but it is my silly mistake, however at the same time proves the point of the frame being a bit too fiddly. Cat loved it for the long trip we had to make! Did not actually end up expanding it at all as she was so nervous and it was so cold that she was mostly hiding under a blanket anyways (but we did a trial walk to the beach when no one was around in warmer weather and she loved the expansions and being able to watch the seagulls from there) Also the clip for the harness is just the right size to make it comfortable and safe. On the other hand the dark net and interior made it really difficult to actually see my cat inside there. Another thing that the smaller one has that is not found on the bigger expandable version are the multiple loops on one of the expandable sides - in the promotional video they show hanging the bowl on one but I am thinking that they could also possibly be used to secure the bag with some velcro straps to my bike (esp if I buy a rack for added security). Pecute expandable backpack Pros It is just made differently, you can tell that it has been tweaked just right, it is not just a bunch of features thrown together It is the most comfortable carrier of all to carry! It even has a chest and a hip strap for weight distribution, totally see how it could work even for hikes It is perfectly balanced, whether you take it by the handle or put it on your shoulder the pet compartment stays leveled A choice between all mesh and combination mesh/acrylic screens Perfect size with a slight taper at the top, not enough to make your pet uncomfortable but enough that it doesn’t look or feel like you have a fridge on your back (or front) Very decently expandable My cat loves this thing! She uses it to sleep in at home (yes she has a cat tree, and a cat hammock attached to my desk and a cosy cat bed yet she chooses to sleep in this instead) Cons No top/rain cover - cat got rained on despite my umbrella No luggage strap in case you would want to put it on top of your suitcase The clip for the harness is a bit on the short side Can’t really think of any other cons, it is just a great all rounder Halinfer Expandable Cat Carrier Backpacks, Space Capsule Bubble Pet Carrier Pros Small - probably easier to cover in the rain and for people of smaller frame/kids Ok position on the back Great for displaying and showing off your cat expandable Cons Not very stable on its own Not convinced of the quality The way it is shipped isn’t great and it came with a crack and all deformed I have kept the two Pecute ones - the backpack and the small expandable bag - I feel like they are the best value and together cover just about everything I need (although neither is totally ideal it is the closest to ideal that I have found). As for the bike rides I will either come up with a way to make the bag work or I will just use the backpack on the bike (not my preference as then I can’t see my cat and also I do usually have a back pack of my own).

Dog LOVES it.
Used this to travel via plane, train and car with my miniature poodle. Did some training to get him used to it and he gladly walks in on command and is able to chill and feel safe and relaxed. Quality is really good, not 100% perfect but very sturdy and seems like it will last.

Quality carrier
I searched all over for a carrier that was the right size for my dachshund and finally found Sherpa. All others were either too short for her, or too big to comply with airline measurements. I found multiple videos online where people used and recommended Sherpa carrier large for airline travel, which made me feel confident with this choice. My dog is about 17 inches long neck to bum, 10 inches floor to shoulder and weighs about 20 pounds.
