SABRENT M.2 SATA Enclosure: A Simple Solution for Forgotten Drives
SABRENT M.2 SATA Enclosure: A Simple Solution for Forgotten Drives I had an old M.2 SATA SSD sitting in a drawer—you know, the kind that was too small to be your main drive but too good to throw away. This little Sabrent adapter was the perfect way to give it a second life. The installation couldn't be simpler; you just slot the drive into the board, snap the two aluminum halves together, and screw in the four tiny corner screws (the included screwdriver is a nice touch). In about two minutes, I had what looked like a standard 2.5-inch SATA SSD. I popped it into an old laptop as a secondary drive, and it's been working flawlessly. The speeds are exactly what you'd expect from a SATA III connection—no bottlenecks here. The aluminum casing feels sturdy and does a decent job dissipating heat during extended use. The crucial thing to know—and where I think some negative reviews come from—is that this only works with M.2 SATA drives (B+M key), not the more common NVMe drives (M key). I double-checked my drive's specs before buying, and it worked perfectly. If you're unsure, a quick Google of your drive's model number will tell you which type it is. It's a niche product, but if you have the right kind of spare drive, it's a fantastic and affordable way to avoid electronic waste and get some extra storage. Bottom Line: An excellent, no-fuss adapter that breathes new life into old M.2 SATA SSDs, just be absolutely certain your drive is the SATA type and not NVMe before you click buy.

Great product, make sure you buy the right one for your drive though.
I saw lots of reviews about this not working. But there is a picture in the images that show what keys/types work with these adapters. The one i purchased had the key for my sata ssd. Which my pcie 4 slot, runs sata ssds, but not my pcie 3 slot. So it left me 1tb of storage down. This device, works great. Getting full speed I think on crystal disk. Overall a great product. And a quite elegant solution for a problem I didnt know I was going to have. Thank you Sabrent :)

Works exactly as intended
Works as intended. Great way to add storage to an older computer. Takes 5 min to install.

Well it was pretty good... died after 4.5 years...
I guess it was a pretty good value for the price.... note it has 4 TINY screws on the edges to hold it together (plus the slightly larger M.2 hold down screw, so if you don't like tiny screws this isn't the one for you... Personally, I was looking for something a bit more "open air" as I'm sure this enclosure did hold in some heat, but it lasted a good while... It worked great for 4 years and 7 months of fairly light home use (used it on a secondary drive that was just used for some extra photo storage not any heavy use like gaming. Note: I did not use a heatsink pad and that potentially could have affected the life.

Over 5 years later and working perfectly
I had a spare m.2 SATA drive (emphasis on SATA which I'll get back to) and a failing 2.5" SATA drive in a PC. Buying a new 2.5" drive would have cost me around $25 at the time vs. spending just under $10 for this adapter. I ended up buying the adapter, placing the m.2 SATA SSD inside it, closing it up, and then cloned the original drive to this one. After that I installed this inside the PC. 5 years later and the SSD and PC are working perfectly fine. I look through the reviews and I see a common theme. Stupidity and ignorance. There should be absolutely no reason why this device should be your failure point. The main complaints about this is regarding NVMe drive not working. First of all, there is a difference between SATA, NVMe, and m.2. m.2 is the form factor for your drive. NVMe and SATA are types of interfaces used for connecting storage devices. You can have a m.2 drive that is SATA or NVMe (not both). Most m.2 drives are NVMe, but back in the early days of m.2, there were a lot of SATA m.2 drives. However, you can't use a basic adapter like this to take a NVMe drive and "convert" it to a SATA drive to use with a SATA 2.5" drive connector. To anyone who isn't clueless regarding that, and I don't see how this should keep happening with Sabrent clearly listing this as "not NVMe" in the product title nowadays, I can assure you this thing is rock solid form my experience. The main reason this has a 4.3 instead of a near 5.0 review score is because of the ignorant people who bought this for their NVMe drives and don't know the difference between interfaces.

Misleading title and no media to show what this drive actually supports. Wasted money and time.
Maybe it works. I had no way to know if it would since my M.2 SSD had no markings and this listing shows nothing about what differences to look for. I can't fault them for saying it won't work with specific formats - which apparently includes mine, but this 'try it and find out' nonsense has wasted my time and money on a product not worth returning. $10 for e-waste is all this was . . ADD SOME FREAKING PHOTOS SABRENT! YOU MAKE GOOD PRODUCTS! MAKE IT EASIER TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE SELLING!!!

Works Great - Amazing 2-in-1 (both internal and external drive at the same time)!
Initially I was simply looking for an adapter to make my 500 GB M.2 SSD fit in a conventional 2.5" hard drive bay when I stumbled upon this adapter. Not only does it do exactly what I was looking for but it has the added bonus of being able to be accessed over USB as an external drive. For $13 from a reputable company I thought this was a steal so I grabbed it. I'm happy to say that it simply works. Installing the drive was a breeze and all the necessary screws and even a screwdriver were included. Only takes about a minute to install. Windows detected the drive immediately. My M.2 drive fit perfectly - I suspect the negative reviews that mention drives that don't fit may be NVME as opposed to SATA drives and the product description is pretty clear this will only work with SATA M.2 drives. If you aren't sure, check the sticker on your drive - it should say either SATA or NVME/PCIe somewhere on the label. If it says NVME or PCIe then this adapter will NOT work - you will need to buy an adapter that specifically works for those drives. On an initial speed test I was getting 400 MB/s read and 360 MB/s write over USB3, making it by far the fastest USB device I have ever used. I haven't had an opportunity to test it out as an internal SATA drive yet but I have no reason to doubt that there would be any problems. I definitely recommend this product at this price point. You should always have someway to read data off of your hard drives in case your computer decides it's time to call it quits and fails to boot. External enclosures like this make it easy to recover data from your drive before attempting to reformat or replace it. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW IF YOUR M.2 DRIVE IS SATA or NVME/PCIe BEFORE YOUR PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT! IF YOU HAVE A SATA DRIVE THEN THIS IS THE PRODUCT FOR YOU!

Ok product, Cheaply made, was missing a screw
Bought 3 because my new motherboard doesn't support m.2 sata. Cheaply made, wasn't expecting a lot but they lack both standoffs for your ssds (to keep them from bending) and the screws that hold the cover together, are so cheap that they strip even if your being delicate. Suggest buying a 0.5mm thermal pad for your ssd as well, also not included. Lost a star because one of them was missing a screw for the cover in the bag as well. All in all, if I did it again I would probably look for a different one.
