Nero High Polymer Extra Heavy Weighted Chess Pieces with 4.25 Inch King and Extra Queens, Pieces Only, No Board

These are really good and pretty pieces, suitable for a large chess board with at least 5x5 cm squares. They are weighted as promised and therefore bound to be stable also on blitz games. I like these.

These chess pieces are just what I wanted for casual speed games on my 2 1/2 inch squares chessboard! They also look just fine on a 2 1/4 inch squares board - not too crowded. The quality is very good as you can barely see a trace of a seam on any of the pieces - no doubt because of the complex and expensive moulding process that is used in their creation. I couldn't be happier! Well done! For an improvement to these pieces I removed the padded leather bottoms and replaced them with bottoms of thick billiard table cloth. This enabled each piece a super smooth glide across my chess boards. It was easy to do as the leather bottoms lifted off quite easily while remaining intact so I was able to use them as templates to make the new ones. I used cue tip glue for the adhesive as it sets in ten minutes but allows for the initial positioning of the new bottoms. I had been concerned about possibly scratching my boards as the edges of the leather bottoms are a little on the sharp side and I often play fast paced bullet chess games. Now I'm pretty much worry free as to how my opponents physically handle the pieces when in this time format! Gordon W.

Overall, a nice chess set but some pieces (the knights) have rough ridges at the molding/casting points. They are weighted quite nicely with the exception of the pawns which just feel too light relative to the rest of the pieces. In the end, you will have a decent set for the money even if a bit pricey for a non-wood/metal set.

Well made. Edges are smooth. The look is imitation wood. It's not fooling anyone into believing that it is real wood, but I think it is more appealing to the eye than just solid plastic color plastic. The weight and size of the pieces is excellent. The pieces are very stable and not easy to knock over. You could play outside with a fairly good wind without worrying about the pieces getting blown around or tipped over. This is the largest set I have ever owned and the pieces feel good in my hands. The set works with 2" squares (see photo) but the base of the king and queen pieces is so large that I have ordered a board with 2.25" squares so the royal couple don't feel so claustrophobic where they stand on the battlefield.

I’m not in the habit of writing reviews anymore but with my rekindling of my love for chess this product is awesome. Decent chess pieces start in the hundreds of dollars for quality and a nice heavy weight feel when moving them. I had already recently bought a heavy plastic set from my local chess store, but it was $100 plus tax and didn’t even have a extra Queens 😳. I didn’t even know it until I got home. But when I happened to be browsing Amazon for more chess pieces. I found these. Let me just say that these are Superheavweight. If your into pieces that feel substantial when your moving them than this is the set for you. Also they look like a wood with a high gloss finish and their only $79. Great find and a fantastic deal. The only shame is that they don’t have another color to choose from.

These pieces are also called resin pieces or high gloss pieces or ultra-weight pieces. They are not breakable like the cheaper plastic pieces. These pieces have a nice shine and interesting color, which is not solid, but more streaky, as this material attempts to imitate wood grain. They are made in Hong Kong, but are the highest quality available in synthetic chess pieces.. An earlier version of the natural color pieces was called "spruce-tek", meaning that these pieces are a high tech version of wood. They are also heavily weighted and have rubberized leather pads on the bottom (not felt as in the listing). The set comes with extra queens. At the $60 price, including shipping, the set is a bargain.

I've wanted this set for awhile but, I waited to order till I could get the extra/large tournament set with 4.25 inch King. I love this set. The size and the weight are perfect for me. I put them on a green vinyl mat board and they look great. After using the set for awhile I would like to add - that one of the features of this set i have grown to love is the size of the Rooks. They are as tall as the Knights and have more girth than the Queen and King toward the top. They are a big piece of business compared to other sets. I have a pretty nice hardwood handcrafted set and I put them out when company comes - still this is a comfortable set to play with and I enjoy it.

The chess pieces quality is good. Even though wood would be preferred, I believe this material will be more durable and last longer.
