Helpful, Engaging, and Well-Structured
I’ve been really impressed with this reading workbook! I especially like that it doesn’t just ask students to repeat what they read—it actually helps them process the material. The passages are a good mix of fiction and nonfiction, and the questions go beyond basic recall, which is perfect for building deeper comprehension skills. The helpful definitions and parent support pages at the start of each section are a great bonus—I feel more equipped to guide my students through each lesson. It’s structured in a way that makes it easy to follow, and the built-in reviews help reinforce what they’ve learned before moving on. Definitely a solid choice for eighth-grade readers who are ready to go beyond the surface of a story!

Excellent High Interest Reading Practice
The Spectrum Reading Grade 8 book is an essential summer tool for parents who are looking to keep their children from the dreaded summer slide, provide some remedial practice, or promote extra or advanced practice for younger students. There is a nice selection of fiction and high-interest non-fiction selections that keep a child's attention. Full answer key is provided. Another added bonus is the link to the online program IXL which is used in many school districts. If a child has full access, that is great - if not - the link provides access to a certain amount of free practice daily, which would be perfect for the summer.

Great option for Summer learning!
This spectrum workbook will be such a great asset to my families as we go into summer. Students often struggle with learning loss over the summer and these books have been proven to help families prevent loss when used daily! It helps students keep their reading skills fresh and helps them learn over the summer without being overwhelmed by tons of work. I use these books with my own kids.

Very nice!
I like these books. The texts are good. But I prefer the question format in the older versions. These questions I find are boring and not very challenging.

Good ol school
I like it for homeschooling because it teaches older subjects that people don’t talk about anymore. Lol. Also give me kid a great chance to independently sit, read and answer questions. We go one grade level above students grade level, so student is more challenged.

Lots of Science
My child is in 6th grade. I use this book to help her catch up during Covid, stay at home, Zoom schooling. She only has 2 to 3 hours of schooling online per day and no homework. This book is self-explanatory and lessons are easy to follow. Stories are short and I find it neutral. Example topics: "Moon Veggies", "Out of this World Experience", "Planting a seed for the Future","Dear President Obama", "a picture Worth a Thousand Laughs", etc. Topics are current and relevant. Students learn grade-level vocabulary, main-idea and supporting ideas, inference, lessons learned, etc.

I love the Spectrum workbooks. I first introduced these books to my homeschooled daughter when she had finished one grade of a different curriculum and I didn't think she was quite ready for the next grade but she needed something to work on. We never did go back to the other curriculum, just kept buying Spectrum. We especially like the Reading. It's just 2 pages a lesson, covers many Language Arts concepts (not just comprehension), and my daughter finds them very interesting to read. She has learned a lot just by the reading section, let alone what she learns from answering the different kinds of questions that go with each reading. This is the book she goes to first in the morning and often goes ahead in her lessons. Whether you need it as a supplement to your child's regular school work or for summertime work or your child's only reading curriculum I am sure you will find this book meets your needs.
