I bought this for my mother-in-law
I really can't say how good this book is. I am not a Bridge player. I bought the book for my mother-in-law who is an avid "Bridge-a-holic." I've heard no complaints from her, and she wanted the book because it was recommended to her. It seems to me that, if you want to improve your game, this is a good book to have.

Recommended by a bridge teacher in NC to help my game. Love it . It is easy to understand with lots of examples which hammer home the points illustrated. The quiz at end of each chapter has great explanations which furthers the reinforcement.

Although I am an experienced duplicate bridge player, there were several things in this book that were new and very interesting to me. Ideas are presented in concise, brief chapters with quizzes at the end to test if you have learned the concept presented. Very well done!

All her books are excellent - own many
Her books are easy to understand and because there are good examples, easier to remember than just plain instructions

Not the easiest to understand
Not the clearest writer. I had a class with her and she was excellent but her writing/teaching style in book form leaves much to be desired.

Part of a very good series of bridge books
Having bought 25 conventions you should know and then 25 more conventions you should know, I have been very impressed by the '25' series. They are aimed mainly at the improver or intermediate player but, nonetheless, have plenty for beginners. Each chapter covers a topic with a quiz at the end to check the reader's understanding.More advanced players might find the quiz a good place to start to check their expertise before deciding if they need to read the text! The books on play are probably less use to good players than the books on conventions. As an enthusiastic player on cruises, where lots of Americans are to be found, I found it particularly useful to read about conventions such as Bergen raises which apply exclusively to 5 card major suit openings which are almost universal in North America.
