Blitzwolf BW-BS5 Selfie Stick with built in tripod
A versatile gadget which has been well designed and made of good quality metal and plastic parts. It appears identical to the BW-BS4 model but includes the added bonus of the 1/4 inch camera adaptor. A small gripe is that neither model comes with a lightweight carry bag.Dimensions:Closed with smart phone holder fitted21 cm long and 4.5 cm at its widest pointSelfie stick fully extendedSmart phone holder fitted - 90 cm from the bottom of the handle to the top of holder.Camera adaptor fitted - 81.5 cm to the top of the adaptor platform.Tripod deployed to maximum heightWith or without legs fully extended, bottom of the telescopic shaft grounded for extra stability.Smart phone holder fitted - 83.5 cm tall to the top of the holder.Camera adaptor fitted - 73.5 cm to the top of the adaptor platform.Weight220gTripodThe legs splay to a diameter of 21 cm and 32 cm with the legs fully extended. The first stage of each leg has a plastic core encased with a anodised aluminium shell. The plastic hinges (a possible weakness) appear to snap into place at the metal collar on the tripod body (see photo). The second stage of the legs are made of solid anodised aluminium, which are rigid and slide in and out of the first stage with sufficient friction to retain their position. Each leg is capped with an anodised aluminium foot with integral rubber pad and magnets which hold the legs together when stowed.Telescopic Shaft and adaptorsThe alloy five section telescopic shaft has a vertical ridge on either side, presumably to add strength and resist twisting/bending, and there is sufficient friction to maintain the desired position when extended. The smart phone holder or camera adaptor can be quickly exchanged from the mount at top of the shaft by removing the threaded pivot pin. Loosening the pin also allows about 200 degrees of tilt adjustment. The camera adaptor has a captive knurled plastic wheel with inset metal screw and a recessed rubber pad to protect your camera. The smart phone holder has a spring-loaded clamp with rubberised jaws which will hold phones up 8 cm in diameter. The clamp rotates 360 degrees, in 45 degree steps, allowing a phone to be used in portrait or landscape orientations. The mount at the top of the shaft also rotates through 360 degrees, in 180 degree steps, so that the holder (when fitted) can be Stowed flush to the handle or set to face in the same direction as the Bluetooth remote when in selfie stick mode.Bluetooth remoteThe small remote clicks positively into a holder on the stick body and when the stick is fully collapsed the phone/camera mount prevents it falling out and getting lost. It charges in about an hour using the included USB A to Micro B cable. A red LED signifies charging and goes out when charging is complete. The device is switched on with a long press of the camera button and a blue LED flashes if pairing is required or remains steady if previously paired. Pairing is easily achieved by clicking BW-BS5 in the phone’s Bluetooth settings. It has a range of about 10 m and a short press of the button remotely operates the phone camera shutter (no burst though) or starts/stops videos. The remote goes into standby after about 10 minutes of inactivity but a short press on the camera button brings it back to life. A long press switches the remote off.PracticalitiesThe maximum height of the stick in tripod mode is obviously less than can be achieved with a full size tripod and there will be times when you need to utilise a bench, wall or something similar when photographing standing subjects. With the shaft fully extended the camera/phone can tend to sway slightly, particularly if there is a breeze. Used as a selfie stick, fully extended at arms length, also induces camera shake. If using a fast enough shutter speed or image stabilisation this probably won’t be an issue. If necessary tripod induced movement can be minimised by fully deploying the legs on a flat surface and collapsing one or more upper sections of the telescopic shaft.Using with a cased phoneI’ve been using the stick with a iPhone 7 and Otterbox Strada Flip Case (overall width approx. 7.5 cm) which can be securely attached and the case opened in portrait and landscape positions. A point to note when attaching this phone is to avoid the jaws pressing on the volume buttons and initiating a burst of shots.SummaryTo achieve such compact dimensions there has to be a compromise when compared to a full size tripod and there are limitations when fully extended and photographing standing subjects. However, it’s reasonably priced, weighs a mere 220g, fits easily in a handbag/rucksack, is well made and quite robust, quick to deploy and allows you to take conventional and tripod mounted selfies with ease using the remote.I’m very pleased with this gadget, it does everything I wanted and I highly recommended it.

Excellent Selfie Stick
This product is well made and does what it says. Takes smart phones or conventional camera. Head rotates 360 degrees and smart phone adaptor can be put in landscape and portrait position. The extending tube is very smooth and dark grey rather than chrome. The tripod has legs which flip out but can be extended if needed to give wider base.

Great selfie stick - slight problem with the remote slot on the stick
I like this product very much - I had a shorter version which I gave to my son. This one doesn’t have the software glitch of the previous version but....the remote slips very easily out of the selfie stick handle slot and so could drop out.when the stick is extended. Otherwise it is great! I have an iPhone 6s
